I’ve had my LC since June and just got a chip in the windshield. This is a week after getting the windshield completely replaced due to a crack that immediately ran 8”. Needless to say I am not very happy with the quality of the windshields. I’m hoping I can get it plugged before it runs but it’s Sunday and nothing is open. Worst part is the chip is driver side field of vision.

There’s definitely a quality issue. Has anyone had success with Toyota owning up to the poor quality?

Curious what you drove before you got the LC.

They have near vertical windshields and will naturally be more susceptible to damage than most vehicles. Hard to avoid, but some insurance companies offer increased glass coverage.

Audi Q5, Ford F150 and Jeep Wrangler none of which have had issues

Yeah, over the years I have had to replace Ford, Chevy, Volvo and Jeep windshields as well.

Hard to know whether it is the windshield quality, increased highway speeds that we drive, or worse road maintenance and surface debris. I suspect our glass has gotten better and it is the latter two that are the culprits.

It’s going to be hard to prevent a pebble hitting your windshield. I try not to tailgate other vehicles but I have gotten chips from oncoming vehicles. I know when someone tailgates me I usually maintain speed but go off the shoulder into the dirt, for some reason they back off, especially convertibles. If I had to guess it’s because they can hear the rocks hitting their windshield.

Both my f150 and my f250 have had multiple windshields. The 250 gets one about every 10 months but it gets driven a lot. I think you're just having some bad luck.
I hope it’s just bad luck, haven’t had to replace or repair anything in my other vehicles for years

Purely anecdotal, but I've had two cracked windshield in 30 years driving and they both occurred within a week of each other, the second the day after a fresh one was installed, and that was on a hatchback coupe with a very sloped windshield angle. That said, the physics of the LC250's vertical and very flat windshield does seem higher risk than most for stone impacts.

I have replaced about 5 windshields in 6 years on my last ride. Nothing to do with quality. I replaced them with OEM and aftermarket and it didn't matter they all cracked after getting a chip in them. I have noticed the LC windshield is a bug collector so I am betting on lots of rocks hitting it too as it is almost vertical.

Has anyone put on windshield PPF to prevent this? I just experienced a small crack, about the size of a credit card.

I'd imagine it helps against rock-caused cracks, but I believe mine is a stress-fracture as its in the bottom left-hand corner? Not sure its my first crack, LC is 3 months old

I often veer to the middle where all the crap from the plows gathers. To some it doesn't matter though. They just like to stay close in case Bambi jumps out.

Same. Windshield damage is part of life where I live. My insurance has a zero deductible glass policy so I pay nothing to replace them.

I have tinted windows and want to install windshield protection ie: XPEL/ClearPlex without compromising visibility...

Does anyone suggest either option?

At the risk of stating the obvious, it helps to repair chipped windshields by using clear epoxy applied with a vacuum device. This can delay or even avoid the need for windshield replacement. Repairs should be done before the damage has time to spread beyond the impact point.

I’ve had five damaged windshields in the past 10 years. Repairs were possible in three cases and avoided the need for replacement.

Just to add to this.... when possible I immediately cover the chip with clear packing tape to keep dirt and water out of it until it gets filled. Almost always they can fill it 100%. When it gets contaminents in it they can't fill it very well. I keep a small roll of packing tape in my car for this purpose.

I'm on my 8th LC - all of which have similar slope windshield. I would say the quality is not the best on the 2024. I already have a couple of rock dings that haven't ran yet, but my 1991 LC that got hit all the time with rocks and was fine after 10 years. Maybe there will be a better aftermarket alternative down the road - maybe polarized like other LC editions. My sister has a Jeep and she gets new windshields every year, but I hardly see that as being something we should accept. I don't think this window will last till spring...

I can confirm jeep windshields are more flat than the LC. I went through several windshields with my jeeps. Only upside is, the windshields other than OEM were not too bad on price. I cant imagine what an LC windshield will cost
