Awesome. Now I don’t feel so bad. I’m not crazy about this exercise because the logical next step is “how many $ have you spent and how many $ would you have had you put in S&P index fund instead”. Yes true but not nearly as fun!
Maybe we should limit to how many race cars have you had or how many cars in last 3 years?

I try not to think about the "what if's" but my wife does!
Worse is that many of these cars have extensive mod lists. The 94 RX-7 was fully built as an Auto-X car first then into road race/DE car and did about 20 track days. Three of the Miatas were built into Spec Miatas and did a bit of racing in the early 2000's. 95' E36 M3 also built into track car and got a fair share of track time. C5 Z06, GT3, GT350, ZL1, Supra, C8 Vette and GR86 were "tires, brakes, alignment" cars that were mostly for track days. I stopped counting track weekends past 100. Racing/track days and mods are way more painful financially than trading new cars.

Older now (is 50 old here?) and like off road stuff more and seeing the sights, hence the 1958 to hopefully get a trip out west to Moab/Colorado/Montana, etc. The wife also loves it and drives it which also makes it financially more acceptable.

The car list would look a lot worse if I didn't get into motorcycle adventure and dual sport riding a few years back. That list is probably equally embarrassing. Enjoy cars responsibly kids......moderation is key. Or anything worth doing is worth over doing. Something like that.

In the order they were acquired…

1985 Chevy S10 - silver manual (used)
1992 Jeep Cherokee - forest green manual (new)
1996 Toyota 4 Runner SR5 - white (new)
2004 Nissan Titan - silver (new)
2002 Superformance MKIII (Shelby Cobra S/C Licensed Replica) - blue/silver manual (used)
2016 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT - black (new)
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser - wind chill pearl (new)

I love my LC, but I’ve wanted a Cobra ever since I first read about them when I was a kid. I’m lucky enough to have owned my dream car. Not practical at all… terrifyingly fast, unbearably hot most of the year here in Florida, fair weather car only (the top is a nightmare to install and leaks), minuscule wheel base and tremendous power makes this car spin like a top when the rear tires break loose… but by far my favorite of all the cars I’ve owned. I sold it for more than I bought it for, after owning it for 6 years, to make a down payment on another house. Someday, I will buy another!

I've been thinking about this and just have to say that after 2,000 miles, there is no doubt in my mind that my 24LCLC is my favorite car that I have owned. Maybe it’s because it’s the highest end/most expensive car I’ve had, but I think it’s more than that. But I have feelings about all the rest. I can still see and feel that Prelude, and of course, distinctly remember hitting 125mph as a dumb 16-year old on an east TX highway. The fantastic 4WD capability of the Cherokee in the snow of upstate NY. The utter boringness of the Pilot and Highlander. And of course, the rumble, power and 12mpg of the V8 4R. But my 24LC just tops them all.

My car journey (in order of ownership):
1988 Honda Prelude (used)
1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo (used)
1996 Chevy Blazer (new)
2006 Honda Pilot (new)
2004 Toyota Highlander (used)
2006 Toyota 4Runner – V8 (used)
2016 Toyota 4Runner Ltd (new)
2024 Toyota LCLC

So what’s your journey and where does your LC stand?

Well, I don't think I could possibly list them all, but here are a few... I think I've owned around 60+ vehicles... These are not in ownership order... I may be off a year or two on a couple of these, but this list is pretty accurate as far as the ones I can easily recall.

2007-2016: 2007 Ford F150. It was getting up there & seemed big for the city. Wish I’d kept it, I’d still be driving it I’m sure. The best vehicle I’ve owned, though the Acura was up there too.

2012-2017: 1989 Mustang. GT vert, great 3 season 2nd car. Had a lot of fun with it, & while I don’t want to say I should’ve kept it…

2016-2022: 2007 MDX. Awesome find when heading into winter with the mustang after selling the F150. Sold to my neighbor whose kids are still driving it when I no longer needed to keep 2 cars.

2017-2020: 1993 Explorer. Good 4 season 2nd car after the Mustang. Died despite low miles & being well cared for. Still, that’s >25 years old.

2020-2022: 2020 Explorer. Maybe another one I should’ve just kept, but it never felt like mine being bought mostly for my ex.

2022-2025?: 2022 Bronco Sport. Big downgrade I wasn’t expecting. Its small & maneuverable for the city. But I’m researching getting into a car I’ll want to keep long term again.

The LC appears to your cup of tea, and would be a good evolution to that car history.

That was certainly my thought as well. It almost appears the LC is the next obvious choice. I’ve made some different decisions with cars through the years as life changes, but looking at this history I’ve been somewhat consistent.

The most common upgrade for people with a Sport is to upgrade to the ‘real’ Bronco. Which I might do for a 2nd car if I could keep more than one. But. The LC would just be a better fit for what I want to do going forward. Particularly when my goal is to get a car paid for that I can take into retirement.

At 16 I inherited my dad’s pristine 87 Rx7 Savanna. I totaled that my first week driving it. (In a tropical monsoon storm no less!)

I then drove my mom’s Volvo (was only allowed to drive it to part time job…)

The first car I bought with my own hard earned cash at 18 was a used 94 Integra. As a broke college student I had to learn basic maintenance and being in the JDM car community, i got into modifying the car. My first autocross event. I put the car through its paces but it still served me very well. Added additional 100k on top of the 120k mi it came with.

Next was a used Jeep with 12k miles on it. 2 door JK. I really loved the Jeep. Quite literally drove anywhere and everywhere with that thing. Sadly right after 100k mi, it started giving problems every month. While I was able to fix them myself, it was getting a bit much and it broke my heart to do so but I had to sell it. Funny enough I got pretty much what I paid for it 5 years before.

I drove my weekend car for a month or so until I got a 2020 WRX. With about 5k in bolt ons, and a tune, it was a monster of a car. Also highly reliable. Only reason I sold her was because I have a family now and a mini sedan wasn’t going to work out long term. I was at a Costco and I couldn’t fit a box of diapers in an empty trunk…

So when it came to deciding what the next car would be, I remembered how much I loved the Jeep so I got something more family oriented, the Land Cruiser. (I can finally fit a box diapers into the trunk, even though it’s filled with all kinds of stuff!)

We have a lot in common. Your RX-7, GT3, NSX, and Cayman stood out plus all the Miata’s and Spec Miata. You like Miata’s, who doesn’t? I also had an X 1/9 in high school and it was my first car! I went the SCCA spec racer route then Skip Barber Formula Ford when not doing track weekends. Down to eight cars now and just rotate the sports cars. The LC is awesome. And I also did BMW GS off Road until some crashes damped my enthusiasm … back to mountain bikes (Ha!).

When people ask me why I have 2 cars even though I live alone, I always tell them "because I only have a 2 car garage"
Love it. I will be using this one again and again!
