Toyota has reintroduced the short-wheelbase version of the Land Cruiser 70 in Japan, following its recent availability in the UAE. First launched in 1984, the J70 was discontinued in the region in 2004, briefly returning in 2014 before being discontinued again. Now, making a comeback for 2024, the model was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show. This latest version of the Toyota off-roader isn't as basic as its ancestor from 40 years ago. It now incorporates modern features such as Hill Start Assist Control, Downhill Assist Control, a six-speed automatic transmission, stability control, and Active traction control, while still retaining the dependable ladder frame and electronic differential locks.

The thought of buying a new 1984 car in 2024 is intriguing to me beyond all doubt! But with money & space for 1 car, I suspect even if we had the chance to purchase either, I’d be better served by the new LC.
