Swapping FJ for LC

Welcome. You'll enjoy the new LC. They are very different rigs, but with similar DNA.

Coming from an FJ I felt the new LC had far more electronics, driver nanny's, and modern vehicle touches.. lending it a far more modern feel. Sometimes the nanny's and warnings annoy me. But it's still very new to me and growing on me.

the FJ felt simple, basic, rock solid, and very old school simple Toyota.

They are similar in the fact that they are similar recipe - body on frame, straight rear axle on coil springs, IFS up front.

Interested in hearing your thoughts on FJ vs. LC

Greetings, Friends and fellow Enthusiasts!
I just traded-in my beloved 2013 Trails Edition FJ Cruiser for an almost new 2024 LC FE (3900 miles on it). I thought it was time to get a little better everyday driver that was still capable of the off road adventures that I enjoyed with the FJ. I live in Central Texas, just north of Austin. I'm looking forward to learning and contributing to the forum as well as adding mods to my LC as the need/want arises.
Blessings, all.

Welcome and aaaah, nice FJ, legend!

It's ironic that you intended to trade in your FJ but weren't allowed to do so. It sounds like a sign that you were meant to keep it. : )
Having some cosmetic damage on a FJ is like having some scars on your body from really cool adventures. You get to relive those memories every time you see them.
Cheers.
Until you scratch your new LC250 and cry a little at night when no one can hear!

My 07 was taken from me in 20, long before its time. 😭 I'm approaching my LC build as if it's the continuation and improvement upon this.

Sad for me to see any Voodoo blue Toyota meet its end…my favorite color. I can relate…here’s my 4Runner (that my LC replaced last year).

My experience thus far mirrors your thoughts. I was initially inclined to turn off many of the "nanny" features in the LC, but I am starting to like the extra safety features, camera views, and luxury conveniences that were absent in the FJ. I'll have a better sense once I have my first true off road trip. Currently, I'm trying to figure out where to stow all of my gear from the FJ inside of the LC. I need some mods soon.
I'm also puzzling over how to haul kayaks on the stock OEM roof rack on the FE.
Overall, though, it's all good.
Cheers.

So true. I went to the grocery store today in the LC. I parked as far from the other cars as possible... : )
At least I'm getting some extra steps in.

These are painful to look at. Struck down in the prime of life.
Years ago I rolled our old two-wheeled drive Sequoia into an icy creek in Colorado one winter. Scary experience but not a scratch on anyone. Good to drive a tank.

What color was your FJ? It looks a lot like the Meteor Shower/Brown Sugar LC.

Working through this thread and seeing the mangled corpses of an FJ and a 4Runner was like running nails across a chalkboard. Licking a popsicle stick. The scrape of a knife on a clean plate.

You get the idea.

sad!! how'd that happen?
Got t-boned by a Corolla. The Corolla was obviously destroyed…my 4Runner was in surprisingly good shape, and looked easily repairable, but was totaled because it rolled and all the side airbags deployed. Everyone involved was ok.

I did the same thing on Jan 18th, traded in my beast of a car 2013 FJ, loved her but like you said wanted a more comfortable daily driver! Nice looking rig.

I did the same thing. Traded my beloved '13 FJ for a LC FE. Like going from a rotary phone to a brand new iphone. I watched a lot of YouTube vids before trying to understand the Owner's Manual (s) which helped a great deal. Love my LC! But still feel a twinge when I see an FJ. Especially if it's Magma!
When I picked up my LC, I remarked that I was going to have a steep learning curve with the new tech. The lady said "oh, it's not really that advanced compared to what you're driving now, I'm sure, what are you driving now?" 07 FJ Cruiser "oh, yeah, it will be a lot different."
