Coming all too soon here in SE Idaho! In fact, a bit of the white stuff in the forecast for the storm arriving tonight/tomorrow. In my younger years I actually looked forward to the challenge of messy (and obviously dangerous!) roads. Put the pedal to the metal in my VW Beetles! No more! Hey, lived in Sin City in the '60's...

that sounds good to me! It’s way too hot here. I grew up in North Dakota so I’m used to driving in white out conditions lol

Mount Charleston should be getting some in a couple weeks. Also Utah is just a few hours drive and has the best snow in the world (I have shredded snow around the world, the only snow that comes close is Tromso in Norway and Hokkaido Japan)

This was on the way home from getting KO3’s installed. This is not the current storm we’re experiencing, but the first snow a few weeks ago.

Pretty much the deepest snow was what you see in the pic. They seem to do better than KO2’s on our 100. We may try to make it down south where they’re supposed to get multiple feet this weekend.

I get awfully jealous at the thought of living in Vegas! If I ever see snow again it’ll be too soon…. & of course here it’s coming all too soon.

Checking back in. Went up to Animas Forks from Silverton in a fresh 6” of snow. 1-2 more feet are supposed to fall tonight, probably the last vehicle to see the town this year.

I haven’t seen snow like that since I left Idaho a decade ago.
What tires are you using? (Are they 3 peak mountain snow rated?) And how did they do?

KO3’s have had 4 sets of KO2’s on our 100 and will never deviate from the brand/model. Great in all conditions except ice. KO3’s seem to do better in the snow, but I don’t have a true 1:1 comparison. Our 100 is 2500 lbs heavier.

Speaking of the 100, here is a pic of it in the same spot earlier this summer.

Never have needed snow chains. I drive in deep snow often with where I live, if it’s ever super deep, I just air down to 15-20 psi which allows me to go 30mph or so which is the max speed you would want to go with chains anyways.

Were you using snow rates tires?
I’m planning to drive from Dallas to Denver mid December. Wondering if the stock Michelin tires are safe enough even the car has full time 4WD.

Yes KO3’s. I would upgrade before making that drive that time of year. I have been in some super sketchy drives around that time of year in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas.

This most likely is going to be a one time trip. We live in Dallas and does most city and highway driving, was thinking about wearing out these stock tires before any update.
That’s why I was thinking about getting a pair of snow chains just in case. If we need to replace tires now, probably more economic just fly instead of drive.

You could get lucky and the weather might be fine, but there are so many areas it could get bad I also couldn’t recommend making that drive in December with any of the stock LC tires. I wouldn’t do it without some at least 3 peak rated.
