Running board lights

If you’re planning to use an LED strip those typically draw ~4amps per foot vs the OEM led which is in the neighborhood of 20-30mA.

I think your problem is the outer wire that also should have voltage on that appears as a ground but really isn’t a traditional ground doesn’t on your trim?

If I had a need for a subscription currently Id disable mine in GTS+ and retest the circuit for you to verify if Toyota could activate it for you? Id assume it would be set to default though no matter the trim level??
I was going to mount a single rock light in the center between the doors and angle it out. I may just scrap the whole idea and move on to something else. I do a have a set of connectors from Corsair if anyone wanted them.😂

Why not just add a dedicated switch?

I just wanted to them to come on when I unlocked it. Mine has the predator steps on it so. I mean it’s a really just a thing I wanted but I am going to have 2 Diode Dynamic rock lights mounted on the sides of my roof rack.

I hooked mine up and they turn on Correctly but do not go off until the 20 minute default settings. Any ideas why they don’t go off with the other lights? Thsnks

Finally got around to putting them in last week. I used the wiring harness off the stock running board. Works just like the running board lights. Zip tied for now until I get my rock sliders mounted and decide on where I really want them.

1958 doesn’t come on
LC trim with running boards works correctly
First Edition comes on but doesn’t go off

Hopefully the dealer can help us out

Do you have a multimeter? I need someone with the problem of them not working to check the two wires for voltage to ground when the lights should be on, approach or door open. One wire (outer wire in the connector, don't have the color off the top of my head) is constant 12VDC the other is variable DC ~ 9VDC when off and ~ 3.5VDC when on.

Did some checking since I had other things I needed from TIS. Unfortunately it won't be easy to check to see if the step lighst are wired into the main body ECU as the junction connector is behind the infotainment screen and it may just be a setting the dealer could enable but I doubt it.

I would imagine they are wired in but its likely a difference in ECU software that allows their functionality or not and not a simple setting that can be changed. They could likely reflash with the software if that is the case but probably it is tied to VIN by Toyota to prevent possible issues with enabling features not installed and causing issues elsewhere and future diagnostic problems if something goes wrong.

If it were me and its wired in and not working I'd check for that variable voltage at Junc. Connector # 16. (E157, two to the left of it) at pin 22 and if that voltage is present jumper that over to pin 14 on Junc. Connector #14. That would give functionality to both step light connectors, I'd caution anyone that tries this to not install a very high current draw light though.

See attached. TIS calls this a ground but it in operational reality it is not a ground at all, its variable +DC and controlled via CXPI communication from the Main Body ECU.

Edit can't attach files to the post anymore???
