Roof Racks and MPG

At around 250 miles on mine, my goal this week is to hit 15 mpg in the City....I'm in Sport Mode the minute I start it. Still better than my '22 4R with 11k miles on it which avg's around 10-12 mpg in the city-----and definitely no "Sport Mode" in the 5th Gen 4R.

I think I've got the same mindset as you... idgaf about my mpg ๐Ÿ˜‚

More power and less mpg than my old 4runner? That's an easy win in my book lol

I installed a Wescott full rack.prior to the installation I was getting about 24 to 26.9 mpg highway driving varying speed from 55 to 65 mph with stock Michelin 18 inch tires and wheels with outside temperature of about 80 degrees Fahrenheit. After adding Toyo AT3 tires and KMS wheels and a Wescott roof rack this has dropped to an average of 23.6 mpg highway and varies from 18 to 31 mpg city depending on how aggressive I drive.

I did note after 1,000 miles the hybrid batteries seem to be used more around town at speeds up to 35 mph. This might be due to restricting use of the reactive batteries during the break in period?

That seems to be the consensus, yes. Probably to force the ring and bearing seating process before the 1k mark, which most people treat as the threshold to start thrashing on the gas engine.

Hello all. I have a LC edition with a little over 1,000 miles on. It's all stock with the stock roof rack. I am considering upgrading to a roof rack from Prinsu or Westcott Designs (I am also open to other suggestions), and I am curious about how it will affect my MPG. I am currently getting 22-27mpg depending on the type of driving I am doing. Has anybody changed their roof rack and noticed a real impact on MPG? Thanks!
