Real World mpg

Took a road trip to the coast to escape 111 degree weather. About 250 round trip with some elevation changes. AC was working hard. 1958 with no roof rack on stock tires (I don't even remember what they are, they're going to be replaced, but at least until then I can enjoy MPG like this...)

Nice to finally see some numbers with street tires and no roof rack lol. As expected, EPA or better. Will only improve as it gets broken in.
 
I'd be curious to know how many of you used premium gas vs regular gas when posting your MPG numbers. My guess is that premium gas would have better MPG.

I've had my 58 for 2,700 miles now/6 weeks and combined City/Highway I am getting 19.1.

For pure highway driving tests, I have taken 6 trips for 225 nonstop HWY miles, fill-up to fill-up at exit ramp stations. Newest to Oldest display readings - On 4 of them, I have had 20.7MPG and 20.8 MPG, 20.1 and 19.9MPG. (the 19.9 reading had 2 other people with me - the rest I was alone). This is Eco mode, Stock Tires, Cruise control set at 75MPG - Outside temps 80 and above.
I am not pleased with the mileage. Especially coming from a tuned Diesel Grand Cherokee with 29MPG HWY.
On This weekend's trip I am going to do my old fashioned math - actual Odometer miles traveled vs gallons pumped into the tank.
 
Itโ€™s a short sample but I have been getting 22.5 mpg through the first 360 miles - mostly highway.

Almost at 1k miles in San Diego, averaging around 20 mpg. About what I expected and tbh would 3 mpg more be nice? Sure. Does it take away from how cool I think this car is, not really.

3 mpg delta on 12k miles a year and $6 premium gas (high end) is an annual difference of $470. Not nothing, but not enough to bother me personally.
 
27 mpg on the NJ Turnpike! Drove from my home in DC up to the beach in CT, display said 27.8, actual miles 263 divided by gallons (9.5) so right at 27 mpg. Pleasantly surprised as, my city mileage was meh (18 mpg).

Details: 1958 with stock tires, no roof rails or racks, cruise control at 70 mpg, premium gas. Little stop & go on the GW Bridge in NYC but otherwise all highway speeds.

I've got 919 miles on my LCLC (roof rack on but cross bars removed, stock wheels and tires). Most miles are accumulated in going up into the mountains to fish, so a lot of highway miles and elevation changes. I use Costco premium gas and am consistently getting between 23.0 and 23.3 mpg from tank to tank.

Damn some of you guys are getting good mpgโ€™s. My wife has been getting 18.6 on 91 octane 5k on the odometer

There are a lot of variables here including driving habits, type and size of tires, road conditions, traffic, etc. I think the biggest impacts are your driving habits and the tires. Some people are getting in low to mid 20s while others in the teens.

Absolutely. I sometimes frequent some RAV4 forums and the MPG discussion has so much tunnel vision. In my RAV4 Hybrid I get anywhere between 18-44 mpg (tank average) depending on so many variables and different types of drives I go on.

(Iโ€™m fortunate enough to not have a daily commute. Of course that will add a lot of individual consistency for many)
 
I'm getting 15.3 lol. That's what happens when I drive it like my ZD8 (GR86) in 100degF+ weather! I don't care. Happy with the truck, and so is the family.
 
After about 200mi of mostly driving my kids around in 100+ degree heat, 7-15 minutes at a time, Iโ€™m averaging 16.5MPG. Half on stock tires, half on stock sized SL A/T4Ws. Short drives are so bad for mileage, so Iโ€™m not worried yet.

This is useless data but I just wanted to participate!

Is there any way to display tank average MPG? I see trip MPG and total average MPG (resettable) but my favorite in my RAV4 hybrid has always been tank average. Long enough distance to be meaningful, short enough to be fun.
 
198-mile all highway trip today . Tank had 91/93 blend. Large roof rack (the port installed $1440 option), 18"stock tires. Adaptaive Cruise at 78MPH.
21.16 MPG @9.36 gallons... Turned 3,000 on the odometer and I am getting steady 21 and change for all highway and in the mid 19.X for mixed driving. Sadly, Not what I expected.
 
27.6 mpg on the highway. Trip back to DC from the CT beach via the NJ Turnpike. Display said 28.8 mpg but Iโ€™m going with the trip miles of 276 / 10 gallon fill-up. Trip up was 27 mpg - slightly lower due to some stop & go on the GW Bridge.

Here are my details: 1958 with stock tires, no roof rack, 67 mph on cruise control, eco mode, premium gas, trip was completely flat. 1,200 miles on the vehicle.

My takeaway is that the EPA rated 27 mpg highway listed on the dealer sticker is pretty much spot on. Of course higher speeds, AT tires, roof racks, hilly terrain etc. will noticeably reduce your actual mpg.

Anyone could ditch Starbucks... make their own Coffee... and save more than $470.... a year! I have always used premium Gas... and never looked back with my subaru forester turbo... Then add the fact that I drop almost 2 miles per gallon if i'm forced to use regular... then the Math is even better for using premium... I'm willing to pay for that extra 0.5 seconds faster speed to reach 60 mph from 0-60.
