Hi, can somebody tell me what this noise is when I move the rear shift from either Park --> Drive or Drive --> Park? I'm guessing it's supposed to be happening, but not not sure what the noise actually is. The noise lasts less than 1 sec and kind of sounds like a screw winding up or down. It's subtle with the windows closed, but seems loudest around the rear wheels if you stand outside while performing the shift. Anybody know what this is?

Maybe the emergency brake?

I don't have a sound but my shifter feels like it's sticking during the first shift to reverse of the day. When I go from park to reverse, it clunks. Sometimes, I feel like I'm going to break something by trying to give it a little force. I'm wondering if I should take it to Toyota to have them check it out. Does anybody else have this issue?

I think the sound you are hearing is the parking brake releasing from rear wheels.

I just left my dealer and he confirmed it’s the electronic parking brake. I never heard this when it was new. I wonder if it’s going to get louder as time goes on.

The EBrake should show on the dash when active. Anytime you are in park it will activate by default. It might not matter but something I got used to on the RAV4 was keeping my foot on brake when putting in park until I heard or saw it engage. Then the same for drive, keeping foot on brake, shift into drive, keeping foot on until it deactivated and light went off.

If the sound is a “beezzzurrrrt” then that’s it lol

Is it this noise by chance? New Land Cruiser owner… just bought mine yesterday and when I googled it led me right to this page:

I’m a 3x Jeep owner here who just crossed over… I’ve never been in that much of a hurry 🤣
It’s the anti matter boosters priming for FTL. Super inefficient hoping for wormhole tech on next years model maybe in the premium package

Did you ever find out the issue to this? This happens to me sometimes.

This. (y)

If you put it in park and take your foot off the brake pedal before the eBrake is engaged it can cause a "clunk" the next time you go to drive it when you shift from park to drive.

Singapore’s up

I think it’s what others are saying, it’s the e brake. I traded in a 23 Lexus RX for the LC. In the RX the e brake would engage immediately when I shifted into park. But it seems the LC takes a few seconds longer. At least, the “park” light in the dash takes a few seconds longer to turn on indicating that the e brake is engaged. I think I’ve been taking my foot off the brake too soon so when there is even the slightest incline or decline, the car is resting on the transmission, not the e brake. That’s when it seems to clunk when taking it out of park. I don’t know much about cars but I think that’s what’s happening. Maybe someone can tell me if this seems plausible.
