Yes! Someone else commented that TCCN video didn’t apply to our LC’s. I strongly disagree, but I wasn’t going to start a pissing match with the guy. I am glad the video helped! He knows what he is talking about - I use his techniques and get much closer to the Toyota company mileage figures...
Yes they are 265/70/18. I screwed up typingWeren’t the originals 265/70/18?
Are you fully stocked using premium gas?I just finished a 1200 mile trip (average 15 degrees), 17.1 MPG which is the same as the summer months.
My impression is that in cold weather the motor needs to run more to both provide heat and support the additionalOne thing I noticed with my LC250 LC trim fully stock with 8000 plus miles on it. For the last 10 days the weather in my area was between 20-35 degrees and wind anywhere from 5-20 mph. My work commute , I always set the cruise control at 75 mph and it’s 90% highway driving on a flat road, no hills and no traffic. During those 10 days I averaged 18.8 mpg. Today the weather was 62 degrees when I was commuting home, with no wind, no clouds and clear sky. I used the same approach, 75 mph cruise control and I got a whopping 23.8 mpg. I believe in winter we will see 3-5 mpg hit and as summer approaches, our mpg should improve. I was between 21-24 mpg when I was driving my car for first 5 months before cold front started.
Same as the summer as far a load goes. I use 87 in the tank. Are you fully stocked using premium gas?
Air get denser is cold weather. Consequently, air drag increases about 2% for every 10F drop in temperature, and that translates to about ~1% drop in fuel efficiency for every 10F decrease in temperature at highway speeds on average. My impression is that in cold weather the motor needs to run more to both provide heat and support the additional
electrical demands of the cold and shorter daylight hours.
The math adds up based on my experience with getting the said mpg in below 30F and above 65F weather. I saw a difference of 5 mpg more in summer with the exact same trip and speedAir get denser is cold weather. Consequently, air drag increases about 2% for every 10F drop in temperature, and that translates to about ~1% drop in fuel efficiency for every 10F decrease in temperature at highway speeds on average.
Influence on fuel efficiency depends a lot on the cars aerodynamics, but I don’t think we are doing any better than the average with a brick shaped car.
If we make a rough calculation for 70F vs 10F. There would be 30% increase in drag, and about 15% drop in fuel efficiency. So if you were getting 23mpg at 70F, you would get 19.5 at 10F. This assumes no wind, so if there is headwinds, it would be even worse.
Quick update, now at 5000 miles, the hybrid driving video many have suggested has helped. Now averaging 19.5mpg, but regular trips are getting better, 22mpg. Concerning fuel range on the last 4 fill-ups, even though my range states 297 or 306 post fill-up, there is a 2 gallon cushion. When I take the average mpg x the gallons used to fill the tank, it equals the range given by the LC, with an average fill-up of 15.5 to 15.8 gallons. Premium use helps as well.Almost 3000 miles in and have a MPG question: Currently averaging 18.7 MPG-doesn’t seem to matter what mode I am using and every time I fill up, the range in 296 miles. I am have used 89/91/93 octane gas-no change tank to tank in mpg or range. My LC model is the standard with premium package, full skid plates package and 18” wheels with the Nitto tire upgrade. Any thoughts given my window decal said, 20/23 Combo/25? Thanks in advance for any guidance. Would be thrilled to get my range to 350+.
