Almost 3000 miles in and have a MPG question: Currently averaging 18.7 MPG-doesn’t seem to matter what mode I am using and every time I fill up, the range in 296 miles. I am have used 89/91/93 octane gas-no change tank to tank in mpg or range. My LC model is the standard with premium package, full skid plates package and 18” wheels with the Nitto tire upgrade. Any thoughts given my window decal said, 20/23 Combo/25? Thanks in advance for any guidance. Would be thrilled to get my range to 350+.

Have been following MPG reporting, and yours is at the low end, but not unusually low. Your tire upgrade might be somewhat responsible. City, or highway driving, average speed, all figure into the equation. Bottom line, the LC is not frugal on fuel.

Yeah, most of my driving has been highway. Which is frustrating.

I am getting around the same. One thing not taken into account is where you live. Here in BC, everything is either an ascent or descent, not much flat area driving here. I am sure those in the flatlands will do better MPG wise. It is what it is.

Welcome to the forum TonkaTruck.

The Car Care Nut on YouTube has a video on how to drive Toyota hybrids to maximize fuel economy, which may be helpful.

Lots of folks on here clutch there worry beads about less than stellar fuel economy, as can be seen in the 50 eleven different threads complaining about the same issue that you bring up. You tire choice is costing you 2 to 4 MPG, per ‘experts’ on this forum.

Good luck.

However, betcha the turbo is a dream in hilly/mountainous country?

You said most of your driving is highway, but region matters. If your region’s highway is typically 75mpg+ I would say your mpg is totally expected, even more so if you live in a windy area like wyoming

17.5 MPG completely stock LC w the 20” wheels. 50/50 highway/city. Guessing the rolling hills here in western Pennsylvania are the cause. Had a 2024 GX 550 Lux Plus and was getting 13.5 MPG as well despite keeping highway speeds under 75 and trying to coast and not get too deep into the turbos. Oh well.

Appreciate the response, I love it too….I am in the Blue Ridge Mountains…headed to TX for a hunting trip, will test the flat land mpg.

Drive duration matters as well. I never see 20+ mpg on a single drive until it's been at least 45 minutes of cruising. I celebrate when I crack 15 on the bulk of my drives (generally short, 5-15 minutes)

Can you post a link to the You Tube

About 4K on mine mostly highway miles......... only reached 19 MPG once. No complaints from me. I wish it were better, but it is what it is.........

I don’t think this video will help you that much as the Land Cruiser is not a traditional hybrid vehicle. The battery is for torque and horsepower, and it is placed between the engine and the transmission unlike other hybrids. The Land Cruiser was not built for economy.

2k mile trip on terra grappler g3 got me around 19mpg. First half in Eco mode, second half in Normal mode ( I did t see a diff). Mostly highway between 67-77mph

I now have 12890 km (8009 miles) on my bone stock 1958 LC. I recently did a highway trip of 520 km (323 miles) at minus 21C (-5.8F) with almost a constant 120km/h (74.5 m/h) speed & 91 octane gas - which I've used since new - set on ECO mode. Average gas mileage was 10.7L/100km (21.98 mpg). In considerably warmer weather I've managed considerably better fuel economy when keeping the speed down & did this same trip in August in heavy traffic so speed was just over 90km/h (56m/h) and achieved 7.7L/100km or 30.5mpg. I had a 2022 Tacoma SR5 and it was heavy on gas and on a good day in slow traffic on the same trip, it could manage its best at about 9.5L/100km or 24.7mpg but had to keep the speed just under 90km/h or it would get real thirsty. I changed out the stock tires on the Tacoma about a year before selling it to Goodrich Advantage Sport - All Weather tires. By my estimate this increased my gas consumption considerably such that highway mileage - same trip - decreased to around 12L/100km or 19.6 mpg. Your 4 factors for fuel economy are speed, ambient temperature, load, and tires. The best mileage the 1958 LC will get, in my opinion, is stock, speed under 100 km/h, warm weather, one passenger, original tires and when you change any of these factors expect to get decreased fuel economy. So far I'm happy with the LC except for the small fuel tank as I pull a travel trailer - sometimes for very long trips in some areas where 91 octane gas is almost impossible to find, so I expect to be strapping some gas cans somewhere or if an auxiliary fuel tank becomes a reasonable option Only other complaint is the usual gripe about Apple CarPlay - it needs Toyota to pay attention to customer complaints.

I'm at 1200 now. This weekend, I drove around town lots of stops & goes taking my Mom shopping at stores. Meaning flat and avg speed of 35 - 40, I got about 20 which surprised me.
Generally I get about 19.6 - 19.8 as I go up a big hill to go home every day after work, and said hill helps me out as I get to work. I figure I'm doing alright considering it's a big box weighing about 5500 lbs. :)

Where I live there are topography changes, you would think E WA is flat. Kinda,....it's mostly plateau which means, those canyons & hills exist with some inclines. My highway trip to Lake Chelan two weeks ago was at about 20 as well, again, not too bad considering I went over the ridelines and a mountain pass to get there.
