Be interesting to see if your car recognises the tow bar not just the lights working?

I drove it a few inches forwards and backwards but it didn’t detect anything, at least nothing showing on screens.

Just hooked up my trailer and electrics. All the trailer lights work straight away but the car detects nothing. I needed to turn off the button to the right of the steering wheel to stop it beeping at me when reversing. The rear detection doesn’t go out and shows up on the reversing camera. Clearly not ‘plug and play’. Without reading the manual, I can’t find anything in the settings to say that a trailer is available to be able to change anything else.

I put it into my local Toyota and there answer is that I must have done something wrong !!!! charge me £95 for that but I did get a nice video of my tyres !!! well I stripped it all out today with my mate whos a technition and theres nothing wrang Toyota want me to pay £360 to investigate BUT we think it has not been PDI d properly and or these vehicles just do not have the software i,m putting a picture on of the main loom showing its own stand alone ECU plus a buzzer which should buzz / beep when indicating mine does not

I did try the indicators, but don’t think that they beeped either. My guess, considering that Toyota fitted mine and it is operating the same as yours, is that there is a software issue. I’m not in a rush, but will contact my dealer at some point to ask them to investigate.

This youtube shows the trailer settings for the US version which is very different to ours. However, it shows some settings in the menu so I will take a look tomorrow to see if there’s anything there: to help us:



I’ve just checked and we don’t have anything in our settings menu, presumably because we don’t have electric brakes and a tow haul adjustment.

Yes Kev I get the Electric brake controller but loom has it’s own ECU and buzzer the ECU must be to disable the rear sensors surely it’s a case of the Dealers just don’t know there is another guy in Uk having a tow bar fitted can’t remember who ?
There will be a fix I’ll report it to Steven Eagell tomorrow

I went into Toyota Stourbridge today rather than endless emails James there after sales manager was very good wrote down all my concerns etc and is asking Toyota technical

I’ve hardly driven it yet, but the very short reversing that I’ve done there hasn’t been any brake squealing.

There is this other video from US showing that manual changes are needed when towing…..see approx 4:30 mins onwards.

Ye seen that one I think it will be a software update
