Figured this out! The trick (for me at least, who knows if it's for everyone) wasn't to add the Driver Support to the cluster, but it was to move the map OUT of the cluster (which was a bummer since it looks cool when it works).
I guess if you have the map showing in the middle of the cluster, it won't show your nav in the HUD. Oddly, if you have one of the side items showing navigation, it'll show both in the side area AND the HUD.
