LC 250 Hate = It’s REAL

this is true with most vehicles, people will always find what is wrong rather than understanding why they are.
The LC250 is a fine modern vehicle built by the world's biggest and most successful auto producer. Who cares what other people say on social media. In places where it makes sense (near mountains), these LCs are selling like crazy, even at such elevated price.

Its the same as everything else, people with an intelligent opinion are usually silent while those with short sight have the tendency to believe they know everything and are "loud".

I can’t speak to wanting a diesel as I’ve never actually owned one but what I can say is that hybrid configuration hasn’t been bad for me. I do wish it was a tad more gas efficient and that it was a bit faster though haha.

To quote Steve Jobs, “most people don’t know what they want”. And with the emergence of social media, this also turned into people wanting things that they would not like.

I have seen multiple reviews saying they wish US 250 had the diesel engine it has in other markets, because the hybrid configuration sucks. It is clear vast majority of these people never owned a diesel vehicle. There is not a single thing better on the diesel configuration compared to the hybrid configuration, and that includes reliability when you factor in the increased maintenance cost of diesel engines (especially in the US with so few diesel mechanics for personal vehicles).

You are 100 percent correct in Regards to diesel engines. If you are not towing multiple times per week, skip the diesel engine.

I absolutely love that and extremely well said.

I would not care about what the idiots on social media have to say without even owning the LC250. All the influencers have test drove it for few days or 1 week max and came to a stupid conclusion. On the flip side, if I were the head of Toyota, I would have just called this in US the Land Cruiser Prado like it is in rest of the world and I bet 90% of those social media people would have no problem with this vehicle.

I went so far as to track down a 24MY J250 Prado badge. lol

Even for towing, it is not clear cut as the overseas diesel engine makes 370lb.ft torque, compared to 465lb.ft torque the hybrid system makes. Maybe the diesel engine could sustain peak torque for a longer period, but the hybrid gas engine alone also makes something like 320 lb.ft of torque.

I believe the LC 250 Hybrid makes 465 FT/LBS OF TORQUE.

This is probably true about social media reviewers, but as a buyer I actually prefer that they have done away with the Prado badge here. I feel like Land Cruiser owners have shunned the Prado because of its badge. It’s now clear that the 250 is a legitimate member of the Land Cruiser family, despite being from the “Light Duty” line.

Just close the laptop lid and go for a drive. You've got too much screen time and not enough seat time. Is it the best vehicle ever made? Probably not. Is it still a great vehicle? Sure seems like it.

In 10 years when the aftermarket has had time to outfit the current LC/GX like they have all previous models, most of the complaints will disappear.

And since they're starting from a far more realistic price point than previous years, these LCs and GXs will be a favorite of used car buyers and whatever the off-road/overland crowd calls itself then.

It's an iconic platform. Just give it time.

Iconic vehicle with a cult following and it’s been significantly redesigned. This has all happened before; any time this happens there’s outcry, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.

When Porsche put a radiator in the 911 engine people were certain the company was doomed.

It will be like this for a second and then people will move on to something else. Enjoy your truck.

2012 Tacoma refresh, 05-11 owners saying the front is a wide mouth bass
2014 4Runner refresh, 10-13 owners saying nice “Evo” front end
2014 Tundra refresh, 07-13 owners saying Ram copy cat

Now the internet regards them all 3 are the best “ever” built

Who gives an F what everyone says now. Just enjoy your car.

I see the negative reviews and comments, but also see plenty of positive reviews and really glowing reports on YouTube and others of the experiences so far with the LC250. I feel more positive than negative. Maybe I just tend to not watch the negative. Bottom line is how you feel about it. I love my First Edition.

I get a little disgusted when people who paid $500K for a home cry about paying $60-70K for a car. Any car. 🙄 If it’s too much and you don’t want to pay that, find something cheaper and just shut up. It doesn’t mean Toyota priced it too high, or that people who bought them are suckers, your values are just different. People rely too much on what other people think to make their own decisions. Toyota has always priced their vehicles just a bit higher. I hate that people feel they have to justify their choices to everyone else. The LC200 was fugly, anyway.

No problem. But I will tell you this in fairness, it is a great vehicle and I think you would be happy with it overall, but if you are somebody who puts a premium on value for dollar or resale value you might want to look elsewhere because unfortunately and unfairly I do not believe Toyota/Lexus reputation or resale value is ever coming back. It’s not just the Landcruiser, it’s the entire Toyota brand with a few exceptions = Camry, Rav 4, highlander, and the new Prius these Toyota models are still very highly sought after so if value or resale value is important to you I would look elsewhere because Toyota trucks and SUV’s are in the toilet right now thanks to YouTube and social media.
I came to Toyota from the BMW world. if you want to talk tanking resale you should look there. Drive a beemer off the lot and it's down $10k. :)

Social media knuckleheads get views and likes by trashing various things. They really don't care what they tear down in the process.

Nine years ago, after the big refresh of the 200 series LC (and when Toyota was only selling about 2500 of them a year at a whopping $85k without adjustment for inflation) tons of reviewers were saying it was an overpriced dinosaur, not enough power to keep up with the Escalades, with horrible fuel economy, a terrible third row, not enough options, not enough storage, and you should just buy the Lexus instead.

For all the new reviews saying this gen of the LC doesn’t honor the last, I would disagree — bc even the negative reviews from gen to gen are quite consistent! Have some fun checking some old videos on the last gen to hear more about how they were cars built for doctors who felt too ashamed to buy Range Rovers. I know I did…

if you need something to do go watch the new Nicholas Cage movie, it’s stupid but it’s funny as hell.

I really really like mine @150 miles, various driving conditions locally, easy does it for now.
Try it you like it.
Otherwise there are plenty of other wanna be vehicles out there and always lots of great Toyotas to pick from.
Tons just came in in NorCal.

You have to realize that YouTube is basically an extension of the Top Gear shtick but less humorous. It isn't meant to be objective or even factual. It is designed to get you to click, engage, share, like, etc. If all the reviews said "this is a pretty darn good vehicle, but it costs a lot of money", which is honestly true about most vehicles in this price range, they wouldn't get the engagement. So there's basically a set em up, knock em down strategy for content creators. Get the free trip to wherever from the manufacturer for the first drive, make a video that says only nice things, circle back 3 months later with a hot take about how bad it is. Neither video is particularly objective; they are tilted to get your engagement.

FWIW, while I'm taking a 2 year hiatus from BOF SUVs thanks to a ridiculously cheap BEV lease, I'd 100% be in a Land Cruiser otherwise. Love the look, the TNGA-F platform really focused on articulation and tire size (a problem with the 150 series 4Runner I had before) while maintaining a very daily drivable character. Visibility is great, full time 4WD, all the fun off road toys, and that instant torque for passing and generally being pleasant to drive. The LC truly is the jack of all trades. I was offroading with my brother back in November when I still has my 4Runner Pro. I was 100% jealous of his LC Premium while we were out there. Just something about it feels special compared to the 4Runner.

Is it the best value? Nah, that's probably a 6th gen SR5 4Runner with tires and an aftermarket locker. But who cares? Not everything has to be the best value. We're talking about $65k vehicles. They're never going to be a great value as long as you can get the same basic platform for $20k less. Buy the thing you like, turn off the dipshits on YouTube, go enjoy your ready for anything LC.
