From what I gathered from the Automotive Press YT channel, ‘R’ in the 9th position represents the 2024 model year. ‘K’ denotes Hino/Hamura or ‘5’ is Tahara in the 10th position.the Hino plant, denoted with an R in the VIN, has been building FJ’s for decades. I’m heartened by how many of those I still see cruising around SoCal. Those cars haven’t been imported in 10 years.
I’m sure the Hino vs. Hamura plant thing will live large in our minds, but I think the difference in quality is statistically insignificant.
This is basically correct, although the R actually denotes the 2024 model year. From the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum:

You are correct. Based off of your info I searched our largest Toyota dealer and confirmed that info (to myself).
