I think it’s the injectors that sit on top of the valve cover, would those have to come off to do the plugs? One major downside to the V35A-FTS in the GX550 (and everything else it’s in) is that spark plugs are due every 40K miles. EVERYTHING has to come off the top of that engine to do that service. Would not surprise me at all to find out that is a $1200-$1500 service with parts and labor at a Lexus dealership.
The T24A-FTS meanwhile also has to have spark plugs at 40K but there is nothing obstructing access to them and should be easy to DIY or at the very least cost a hell of a lot less to do in a shop.
Then there’s the unfortunate issue of V35A’s continuing to spin main bearings.
Looks like final 2024 US sales totals for the LC were 29,113 and 31,910 for the GX.Might be more relevant to compare the combined sales of the new LC and GX 550 versus the GX 460.
Toyota should be releasing unit sales figures for 2024 soon.
Or that the GX sales would have increased over the prior year.Looks like final 2024 US sales totals for the LC were 29,113 and 31,910 for the GX.
I knew both were supply constrained but still expected the LC would be significantly more than the GX.
Yea… so maybe Toyota didn’t ‘get it so wrong’…Looks like final 2024 US sales totals for the LC were 29,113 and 31,910 for the GX.

This. There wasn't a Land Cruiser for sale in the US until like May. The GX460 sold the first half of the year before the GX550 hit, so half of those sales are likely the MY23.I think that’s true. But also keep in mind that the units sold reflect that sold within the calendar year, regardless of model year. There certainly would have been some 2024 sales of outgoing 2023 GX460’s included in the total. In 2023, Lexus had sold just over 32k of the 460.
Yea, the LC has a much roomier engine bay thanks to the 4 cylinder and an air-to-air front mount intercooler instead of the wide engine with the air-to-water intercooler nestled between the heads. No, I don’t think so. However due to the liquid to air intercooler and all the associated piping/plumbing sitting on top blocking access to the cylinder heads there is a lot of crap that is in the way.
Nothing wrong in my view. They just missed a few things most of us miss as well. Like inadequate storage nooks and inadequate rear hatch lighting. They make it up with annual improvements. That's just the way it is and has been for some time. I find many things to be happy about with the new LC. I love the hidden trailer hitch. Mine may never tow.I’ve seen more LC250s in my neighborhood south of Denver in the last week than I’ve seen previous generation Land Cruisers of any age in the last five years total. Maybe ten.
Tell me again how Toyota got it wrong?
I agree. All of the naysayers re: the new LC seem to be missing the point. I even have a friend who is a long-time Lexus dealer. If I wanted a Lexus, I would have gotten one. Too much snob appeal for me. I have been impressed with Toyota vehicles in general, although back in the '70s my wife had a Celica GT that started rusting as soon as we drove it off the lot and since it did not rust through, Toyota refused to repair it. I have since owned 4 Toyota products (2 Priuses, one 4R, and now the base model 2024 LC and I have been and am very impressed with all of them. The only gripe I have with the LC are the OEM tires and as soon as they wear out, I will replace them. I plan on keeping the LC for the rest of the time I am driving. Toyota makes exceptionally well-engineered vehicles.I have a 250 and I don't agree with his assessment of driving it. But it was a well made video. I checked out the Lexus and it felt too luxury to me. I didn't like the interior. I didn't feel the twin-turbo V6 was significantly nicer than the 250's 2.4L. And the instant torque of an electric motor could be superior to the twin-turbo V6 in the GX when on trails. And the 250 gets significantly better MPG, which matters on a long road trip. Interesting how he kept saying The Land Cruiser was never meant to be luxury. Capability and durability were its identifiers. Then he criticized the 250 for not being luxury enough. LOL. I think most people who share his view are missing the point of the 250's power plant. I could have gotten the Overtrail GX for nearly the same cost, but I chose the LC because I like it better. The guy over at Driving Sports TV compared them and agreed the LC is the better rig on trail. So it wears the LC badge not by mistake. The Lexus is nicer on the highway, hence the Lexus badge. Toyota knows what's it's doing.
