I am getting ready for my first oil change as I just rolled over 500 miles. I am wanting to install the Fumoto drain valve and I am not sure if I should install it now or wait until all the free dealer oil changes are done then install. What is everyone’s opinion thoughts?

I installed the Fumoto valve, (that has a nipple on it for the clear drain hose that came with it) when I did my break in oil change at about 1300 miles.

In a few days, I will do the 5,000 mile oil change, before I take Miss Daisy back to the dealer for the 5,000 mile service. The 5,000 mile service at the dealer does NOT include an oil change.

At that time, I will check with the service writer how they feel about the Fumoto oil valve. If they refuse to work on Miss Daisy for the 10,000 mile service/oil change, because of the Fumoto valve, I will find another dealer, or simply not let them change the oil.. No big deal.

I haven't installed mine yet, I'm waiting until the free oil changes are done. My thought....... I don't want to give the dealer a chance to enter it onto the LC's service record. May or may not impact a service related claim in the future. After I install it and should I need to open an engine related claim, I'll swap the OEM plug back before I take it in............. (I keep it in the glove box).

I’m a bit surprised by the suggestions that a dealer would react negatively to a Fumoto valve.

Have dealers refused to change the oil if the Fumoto is there? How/why could they use it as a reason to deny an engine-related warranty claim or service request? It’s just a drain plug.

I was actually thinking of asking a dealer to install the Fumoto when the oil is changed. Maybe that’s unrealistic?

Surprised by warranty claims being denied? ......... ie I'm having a Toyota Dealer install an OEM Lexus fuel tank in my LC, as specified by the Toyota dealer doing the work .........."It will totally void any fuel tank related warranty claims". I am willing to risk this due to how many times I've ever even heard of a fuel tank related issue. I asked about installing a Toyota transmission oil cooler........... totally voids any transmission related warranty claims. Not worth the risk to me as I have a lifetime warranty on the power train and there are all kinds of transmission related failures. The same holds true for an oil plug........ may or may not be an issue, but to me not worth the risk of voiding my lifetime power train warranty..

can you elaborate on your lifetime powertrain warranty? was that a dealer purchase or aftermarket? how much did that cost ?

I installed a fumoto valve at the first oil change I did myself at 1000 miles. I was planning to do the next oil change myself at 5000, but it was cold and wet so I asked the dealer to do it when I took it in for the 5000 mile service. The dealer charged me less than $100 as an “add-on” to the service which I thought was fine. The 5000 miles service does not include an oil change. I asked if there would be any issue with the fumoto valve and the service manager told me he has one on his truck and most the mechanics too - so no issues.

I didn’t think about the warranty aspect when I installed the fumoto so I might have waited with hindsight. I don’t have an extended or lifetime warranty so I won’t lose sleep over it. In any event the dealer service dept didn’t seem to care.

Sure, when I purchased my LC the dealership (Tuscaloosa Toyota) offered a free lifetime power train warranty. (I purchased at TSRP) It's 3rd party but as long as it's a Toyota dealership, it's covered as long as I track and record (using Toyota parts) the recommended maintenance schedule........... it's for the life of the LC.

I really don't think any service department would have an issue with the valve, I just didn't want it annotated on the LC's service record. When I start doing all the oil changes, it will be installed...... as I think they are the best thing since they started putting the holes in donuts.

Just to verify, Is this the F133N with LC-10 F-Series Large Body Fumoto Valve?
Like [THIS] one?

I’m not sure. There is a new design that allows faster oil flow. I’d look on the Fumoto website to figure out the correct part number. If you get the one with the nipple, some Amazon sellers include the clear 3’ hose that is mentioned above in EOD Guy’s post. Good luck!
