Have anybody seen this code on your LC?

I just had this code coming up after I refuel at almost empty tank at meter (I had roughly 20 miles left on the display)

Now I tried to reset the code and start driving again, hopefully it is just a glitch but it now shows as a permanent code in my EMC. I am driving to the dealer for a check up too

Dangit Marinna!!! Now I need to get my worry beeds out again…
I have to reset the code three times, and finally decided to open and close my fuel tank again. At least for the past 20 miles it did not happen again. Let’s hope it is just a dummy gas tank cap thing

One click only…

Somewhat this keeps coming back up. Given the problem happens pretty much happens after I get the new tank of gas (It is 92 at Chevron), I wonder if it is caused by the bad gas. Is there any additive I could use to make the better (or maybe just flush the gas and get a new tank instead)

Can you try a different brand of gasoline for a few tanks?

The only additive I have ever used was Techron.

It is a code related air/fuel mixture that the engine is creating. To lean means that there is too much air compared to the amount of fuel being injected.

It probably happens as the ECU is trying to tune the mixture, possibly due to new fuel having different properties. You can ignore it.

If this is the case, I bet that gas station has bad fuel.
OP should try a different station / brand of fuel for a few tanks.

Funny this happens when I run Chevron for the first time. They are supposed to be the premium choice and better quality control of their gas station. All the gas I used before are either Costco or Arco, which is supposed to be lower quality gas and my LC was totally ok with it.

I feel the bad gas theory doesn’t quite make sense neither given how many people are running their LC with regular gas and never have any issue with it. But given the car is only 3K miles I would be very very surprised if either fuel injector or O2 sensor is faulty.

I will have an appointment next week and will share what I found. Too bad I will have to drive 50 miles and across the border to the closest available dealer.

Have anybody diagnose this type of issue before? I would try to record these sensor reading later but don’t know what is the normal range of values

There’s a gasoline standard called “Top Tier” gas. It’s a higher standard for fuel with more additives and cleaners.

Costco is one of the places that sells Top Tier gas. I’d trust them before most other places.

There goes your top tier theory. Chevron brand is top tier gas.

I would still be suspicious of that particular station.

I would think usually station owner just take the delivery and wouldn’t mess around with what is delivered to the tank. I wonder how I can get somebody to take a sample of their gas sort of keeping it as an evidence.

Anyway, I hope it wouldn’t cause anything permanent to the car, the engine or ECM should handle compound abnormality gracefully I hope.

As you implied, but to be fully clear - Top Tier refers only to the presence of certain additives in gas. The gas itself is a commodity and there is not a separate distribution system for better gas.

Does this happen at one particular station, or all Chevron stations? If it’s one particular station, there could be something wrong with his tanks in the gas may be getting contaminated somehow.

All gas comes from the same place and it’s the same gas right up until the additives for the particular brand anre added.

A lean code on a turbo engine is identifiying possible engine knock from a lack of fuel delivery. Engine knock = bad things. But I don’t think you need to worry too much. Engine’s are much smarter now than before so it’s just protecting itself. If you’re going into service, hopefully they’ll tell you what’s wrong. Or try using a fuel injector cleaner and call it a day. A mechanic long ago once told me to floor the gas pedal through a gear or two and I’ve seen improvements with that too…not sure you want to do that with your new LC though

I haven’t done an ‘Italian tune up’ in 45 years.
