I went back and forth between the Lexus GX550 Overtrail (which I had one reserved) and something that made more sense for me and my lifestyle; ie., used GX460, used 4RUNNER, or a LC250. After careful consideration I went to test drive the 2025 LC 1958 and pulled the trigger on a meteor shower colored one, tint and paint protection added from dealer. It came with all weather floor & cargo mats, and the tonneau cover (all very useful for me).
I wanted reliability and modern features such as Apple Car play and adaptive cruise control. The "smaller" screens don't bother me at all, and the minimal features on the dashboard make it simple, I thought it would bother me since I am coming from a Mercedes GLC300 4MATIC but I actually prefer this.
This has all the features I will ever need and nothing extra, and the basic look is my favorite. Looking back, I am glad I didn't go GX550 since I really want to use this car as it is intended. I have a large German Shepherd and couldn't think of having his slobber, hair, and mud all over the Lexus interior. For my lifestyle and how I plan to live, the 1958 helps me achieve that.
This is my third Toyota, I had a 2009 Tacoma TRD Sport, and a Camry at some point. I have also had a Jeep in the past. I'm excited to get back into utility over luxury, although I already hear a rattle on the driver side door...
I bought this LC on Monday and yesterday (Thursday), someone scrapped my rear bumper pulling out from curb side parking - to be fair I didn't leave them much room. This left an obvious scratch on the left corner black plastic bumper but it stopped bothering me once I cleaned it up and made peace with it, it's only noticeable if you are looking for it anyways.
I always admired the people who stuck with their basic Toyotas and drove them for 10+ years, that is what I intend to do. This 1958 trim reminds me of a family 80s series I rode in as a child during my youth in South America, hard plastics, no nonsense. This one feels like the modern version of that, smaller, hybrid, and with apple car play.
I have added the factory roof rack (I know there are "better" ones but I like the look of this one), and will get new 265/65/18s Toyo AT3s on Monday, I want to keep my fuels economy and speedometer as intended - besides those promotional videos of the 1958 with the stock tires is all I will want to do with this $60k SUV anyways, at least for the first 3-5 years. I want to keep the truck as stock as possible and with as many Toyota parts as possible to resemble those old land cruisers you still see rolling around today. I will eventually get rock sliders and skid plates but that will likely be it.
