Brakes Squeal

Yup, mine did. I brought it into Toyota service and they didn’t find any dust or debris. They said it’s likely because there is some condensation from being parked outdoors overnight. I’m here in Seattle and it was warm with some humidity and cooler at night. I’m inclined to believe them since it doesn’t seem to happen when I park in my garage.
Hmmm . . . I only park in the garage and it happens daily and has increased over time.

3300 miles on my LC. The brake squeal has been present the whole time. It is loud enough that everyone stares at me when I am reversing. It is loud enough to awaken my wife when I leave in the morning. I took it to the nearest Toyota dealer. It is a two hour drive each way and I had to take off a whole day of work. They could not do anything except give me a car wash. The kicker was cracking my windshield on the way home. I have been going in circles with Toyota Brand Engagement and the dealer. I am very disappointed in Toyota. Toyota Brand Engagement never provides me with any solid information. They are evasive on all questions. I am frustrated beyond belief. Unlike a few people on this forum, the dealership openly acknowledges that they've seen this problem repetitively. I have two friends with the LC250 where I live. They both have the problem too. It has really soured my love for the rig, which was through the roof when I first got it.

This advice is not a fix, but a possible solution......... If you are able, you might be able to back it into your parking space, thus negating the reverse squealing noise.

I get the squeal on backing out, 2.5K on the truck, 2025. Only happens for about the first couple of times I hit the brakes in reverse, then gone. So for me not a huge issue. Does not happen all the time or I would be more concerned.

Went to the dealer for an oil change. I was not holding my breath much would happen by the dealer, and they did not disappoint. Obviously the dealer could not replicate as it was driven there; and most mechanics apparently are deaf to some degree.

Originally I was told I need to apply the brakes hard a few times at high speeds. The dealer said this was needed to sync the pads and rotors or some BS like that. I proceeded to mention I have 10k miles with 3k+ towing a 3500lb camper with a couple trips in the mountains. The dealer was competent enough to realize the pads and rotors are more than likely "synced".

They did acknowledge what they saw in the attached video is not normal, but there is no TSB for the Land Cruiser (only the Tundra and GX). I was eventually provided a number to escalate with Toyota (800-331-4331) and was told something similar and that my concern was noted. I am thinking I will be making a call every couple days when this occurs until Toyota does something about it.

I was told that the brakes, pads, etc are appear fine and there is no safety concerns which is reassuring; though already known.

Sounds like you have been breaking into my garage and driving my Land Cruiser.

I mentioned it at my 5k service. The dealer said they could not reproduce it and didn’t want try to fix it without a service bulletin, but they documented it.

Just some added food for thought. Not sure if it is useful info or not. Perfect for interweb posting.
In Az I have never had this brake noise while reversing. Spent the weekend in San Diego and had to flip a u turn on a narrow street requiring a 3 point turn. Backing up when I hit the brakes there was a marked squeal that honestly startled me a bit. Two thoughts

1. Much more humidity
2. Drove through a dust storm in Yuma sand dunes on the way there

Hasn’t happened since I’ve been back home. Just looking to add to the confusion.

I installed Powerstop Z36 pads today and will keep my thread updated but immediately the squeal went away.

My squealing brake thread
I'm thinking about doing the same since my local dealership is "not able to reproduce the squeal", and I had PowerStop brakes on my old 4Runner. How do these perform on your LC compared to the factory pads? same? better?

Id say it feels the same. I had them on my 5th Gen 4runner as well and I enjoy the almost zero dust. And squeal is still gone as of today.

Funny thing. The squeal started for me at about 1,000km. It's now totally gone at 9,900km. Went away all by itself.

I noticed Dixcel (Japan) has several different pads available for LC250. Part numbers are 311780 front and 315786 rear. I assume the type ‘x’ metallic pads would be preferred over organic on a hybrid.
Sample front pads:

Does anyone know the best way to describe this problem to a service tech. The issue I keep running into is that they say they've never heard of this which seems crazy because there are so many threads on here saying it's a problem. I've printed out the Lexus service bulletin to take with me, but the tech I was speaking with didn't have access to read that.
Brake squeal in reverse, they resurfaced my front rotors and cleaned the brake pads....all better! I don't understand not being able to read the Lexus service bulletin you handed them? Can they read? I sent that to the Toyota service manager in an email pdf, and he thanked me.

I didn’t read the first 16 pages, so forgive me if this has been shared. The other day, I saw in TIS a service bulletin for Tundras and Sequoias. From what I can tell at a quick glance, it’s essentially the same as the Lexus bulletin, but covers more years.

Dear Toyota: GX550 gets some love. Sequoia and Tundra got some too. How about you share a little with the LC? You know it’s a concern. You know the fix. Why haven’t you???
