I’m looking for an alternative to gas & campfire cooking since Texas always seems to have burn bans in effect.. Wondering if anyone has used the inverter in the back for cooking, powering a fridge or charging a power station. I’m trying to develop a solo camping setup that allows me to sleep in the back and make quick meals with an induction cooker.
My biggest concern is somehow screwing up the LC electrical system by plugging in too much stuff for too long and stranding myself in an isolated area. I think a good way to prevent that would be to use a power station instead of the vehicle inverter but Before I spend money on a power station I want to make sure I can charge it in the truck. I’m curious if this may be an issue due to a video I watched on YouTube (below- jump to 5:30). If anyone has real world experience or advice with this, I’d love to hear it. TIA
Ah, you're right, and it's on sale. The automatic probe is a new feature, though.FYI, Just checked Amazon and they have a new small model without a probe for $71.
I’m planning on installing this as I assume you’ll get better power efficiency staying with low voltage DC, rather than converting first through the inverter to high voltage AC and then back down in your power stationEcoflow also makes an Alternator charger that will charge most of their power stations while driving.
- Charge while you drive and stay powered up on the road.
- 800W turbo alternator, 8× faster than traditional in-vehicle auxiliary power outlets. Top up 1kWh in only 1.3 hours.
- A 3-in-1 fast charger, maintainer, and jump starter keeps your battery in mint condition.
- Easy installation
- Suitable for a variety of vehicles, including SUVs, pickups, and RVs.
- Expands existing RV house battery capacity.
EcoFlow 800W Alternator Charger
I haven't installed one yet. But everything I've seen in my research say you can't charge an Ecoflow power station directly from the 2400W port. Unless you're stationary for extended periods this is a great option for keeping your power station charged. And the 2400W port available for other things. Plus if I'm reading things correctly can use this to recharge a dead battery. There are a couple issues that have been ID'd, short cable for some installations and requires you to flip the switch before you start driving. Hopefully Ecoflow is working on a solution to these issues.I’m planning on installing this as I assume you’ll get better power efficiency staying with low voltage DC, rather than converting first through the inverter to high voltage AC and then back down in your power station
I charge my EcoFlow from the 2400 watt plug every day. But yeah you need to remember to turn the inverter on which can be kind of annoying. Charges in 1 hour at room temperature thoughI haven't installed one yet. But everything I've seen in my research say you can't charge an Ecoflow power station directly from the 2400W port. Wish they made a longer narrower electric cooler, I went with the smallest Iceco one and it’s not very practical except for drinksI'm running a Goal Zero 700 with a Iceco 55 fridge. The fridge can run 3-4 days off of the Zero and I have that plugged into the inverter so that while I drive it changes the battery back to full. Works great for all of our camping needs.View attachment 28466
