275/70/18 SL All-Terrain Tire Options

I went with the Yokohama AT4 G018s... no complaints at all with a few hundred miles on them. Not bad at ~53lbs either.

Another interesting find would be Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT, these are C load rated (sorry for off-topic), but still somewhat light for this size (comparing to E-load options) at just 52lb (6-8lb more than SL options mentioned above). One of the huge pros is relatively low price (under $200 at Discount Tire 🤯), but the show stopper for lots of people likely would be lack of The 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) rating 😭 . FWIW it is one of the Ford Bronco's stock tires 🤔

I think the 3PMS designation has something to do with tread void space, suggesting that the tires will handle heavy snow in the same way they might handle dirt or mud. IMO and IME, that doesn’t translate to particularly confident driving on packed snow or icy roads, which is probably what most of us end up doing.

I’m in the “nothing like a winter tire for winter driving” club for sure, but I had a set of non-3PMS Michelin Defenders that were quite a bit better on snowy highways than the 3PMS Wildpeak ATs I got next. Those have a big contact patch and some siping, so it would make sense.

Does anybody have an idea what the difference between 04492430000 and 04509780000 General Grabbers AT/X? I'm looking at 2 different sites, and the specs seem to be the same, but there's about a $50 price difference 🤔

at discount tire the tires have a bit different titles, but it is not really reflected in specs (0.01% delta for diameter/weight):
P 275 /70 R18 116S SL BSW FR vs 275 /70 R18 116S SL BSW FO

this site seems to show all the same info for both tires

Amazon indicates one of them as Light Truck tire. . ., but the specs are identical. FWIW reviews number and time on sale are different i.e. these are 2 distinct products from Amazon's perspective.

internet says that P means passenger . . . or metric 😬 and gives even more random suggestions for FR and FO.
