2024 - Hybrid system malfunction, drive start control malfunction

At 600 miles I had the same experience. I dropped it off at the dealer October 24, 2024. As of December 1, 2024 it is still there. Toyota is waiting for the following parts:

Hybrid Module Assembly
Transmission Assembly
Torque Converter Assembly

I have wanted a Landcruiser for as long as I can remember. Not a happy camper. Waiting for Toyota to replace the vehicle or just buy it back. I have to admit I am worried about the new technology.
Sorry you are going through this too. I just received mine back today after 2 mos. They repl transmission , torque converter, hybrid module and transmission cooler due to metal shavings.

My LC with just over 1000 miles just had a very similar issue last night. All kinds of warning notices and a hybrid system malfunction notice. All the notices cleared but these two (pics of notices attached below) stayed. For a moment felt like transmission was slipping and lost hybrid power. Pulled over and restarted it. After that It drove fine but the notice is there. I scheduled a service appointment for this coming Monday.

I'm surprised by how many people have had this issue come up. No probs here . . . so far. I feel for you guys/gals, though, and wonder when (or if) it'll happen to my LC.

Question: Just as many of us do a preemptive oil change as a guard against machining debris in the engine oil, would any of you recommend a preemptive oil change for the transmission fluid? Would that have even been of help? It seems a small price to pay for peace of mind.

OTOH, if a simple oil change were an effective fix, wouldn't Toyota have offered a free one already? I have to think Toyota knows of this issue and is on top of it.

Took it in for service, the service advisor said that there was a fault code for a transmission solenoid. They are keeping it for another day to drive it more. If it doesn’t happen again and keeps driving without anymore code faults they said they will release it back to me. I’m hoping it was just a glitch, glad to get it back. I’m not too worried about it, if something happens again they will figure it out.

Update Edit

Driving fine for two days now no issues.

Update,
After 7 weeks the LC is ready to pickup. New transmission , torque converter, hybrid module and transmission. I have notified Toyota I want a full refund. I'll wait till 2025 or 2026 and try again. What a shame.

Accelerating from a stop sign, the truck went into neutral, the engine rived up, and malfunction lights started flashing. Had the truck towed to the dealer. The dealer thinks I put the truck into park?! And can’t find any issues “it’s a new car with a new system. These glitches happen”.

The truck has 800 miles on the clock

Has anyone seen this issue?
Same : ( Only had I have 10,000 miles. Vehicle went in end of November and might get it back beginning of Feb with a whole new transmission and hybrid module.

Wow..this happened at 10k miles. I was hoping to be safe going past 5k. It seemed like this happened at less than 4k miles for every incident so far.

I just had the Hybrid System Malfunction/Drive-Start Control System error again today for the third time since getting the LC in August. Two of the times it’s happened in pick up line at my kid’s school and the other was in slow moving traffic. The other two times I took it in and they couldn’t replicate it but did open a case with Toyota. I guess I need to take it back in again but the dealer is 50 minutes away.

Might be late joining this forum, but these experiences I have read sound familiar. Got 2024 Landcruiser September…drove fine with no issues…3 weeks ago on the way to office, dashboard warnings of: Drive-Start Control System, Hybrid System malfunction, Check Engine…it didn’t seem to drive any differently, but I turned around and took it home and took my truck to work. Had my wife drop it off at dealership…they had it for 2 weeks and came up with a diagnoses of “bad gas”. I have always ran Premium in it as per manual. Charged me $700 to remove old gas, etc. I knew that wasn’t the problem, and I respectfully told them I’ll go along-but when we do this and the problem still arises, I want a refund. Needless to say, picked it up yesterday. Drove from the dealership, went to a different gas station, pit Premium in it as it was almost empty, pulled out of the station and Drive-Start Control System, Check Engine warnings pop back up. Turned around took it back to the dealership and handed them the keys, and requested my loaner back…I have sang the praises for Toyota for 15 years as having Tundras, 4 Runners, etc. needless to say, I’m pretty disappointed in the LC. Hoping this gets solved quickly and that it is a simple, repeatable issue for all of us LC owners because I like the vehicle, but I’m losing that feeling.

Sorry for the long post. I will keep everyone updated. I have 8k miles-one oil change/tire rotation.

When you got the errors were you in slow moving or stop and go traffic? Each time I got the error it was in that particular situation.

No, 1st time was just driving down a 2 lane hwy doing about 45-50mph…no change in performance. Yesterday, I just pulled out of the gas station when the 2 codes popped up. Still no loss of power or change in performance, that I could tell-now let me be clear, this is the first hybrid I’ve owned so I find it a little different performance wise than any other vehicle. Wife has a Tesla so it’s always electric, my other vehicles are/were all ICE, so they were always that. But with sometimes electric, sometimes ICE, sometimes both-it’s not always totally smooth operationally.
