20 inch wheels to 18

Hello all. Can anyone offer some guidance on how and how much cost to take off the 20’s that come with a dealer and change to 18’s? I’m in Chicago and very frustrated the 18’s can’t be found nearby.

If you no longer want the 20’s period, you will probably take a loss in trying to sell them. Most people don’t really want them. You may get lucky and find someone that has 18’s to swap with you. I find the 20’s don’t look too bad but the 18’s do look better. And yeah, I think it’s frustrating that in several regions the “upgraded” 20’s are forced upon us who don’t really want them and must pay $1240 for them.

Like many people, I order from Method racing wheels. But you can buy wheels and tires from Discount Tires at a competitive price. Decide what wheels you like online and then either go to Discount Tire in person or Tire Rack online (part of the same business now).

The 20 inch rims and tires have little value (thanks Toyota). I have the 20" rims in the garage and may use for snow tires. So the total replacement cost is $3000 ish
 
Ugh. 3000 is a lot. I may just wait until one pops up within a 4 hour drive or so. That could be a long wait, but oh well. I guess the 20’s look better and are fine for folks not wanting to take it on a trail. I intend to, so I want the 18’s, plus I also am reading how even then the tires themselves will need to get swapped.
 
$3000 for everything. The cheapest rims are the 1958 takeoffs, which are 7.5" wide. That width is probably fine for 265 wide tires.

If doing replacements it's best to do the tires and rims you really want. There's not a lot of price difference between the cheapest and the higher end stuff.

Take what you read on here with a grain of salt. The land cruiser is a capable 4x4 straight out of the showroom. 20” rims are fine for the majority of wheeling most of us will do with a $70k vehicle. Stock tires aren’t the greatest by any means but I’ve yet to see a picture of someone stuck with them. I’m finding out the majority of folks on this forum are concerned with aesthetics rather than functionality. 285 tires look good but are inferior to a 255 off-road. People rock crawling will prefer 18” rims to be able to air down. Realistically, the 20’s are fine unless you fit them with a low profile tire.
 
I thought the 1958 rims were 7” wide?
Maybe, its been a few months since I shopped wheels and tires.

Both the 20" "upgrade" rims and the 1958 wheels had limited tire choices, from what I recall. Based on lack of inventory for 17" rims that fit the LC, a lot of people are replacing Toyotas weak LC choices.

I'm not comfortable running car tires where I go. I would not have bought a truck based SUV if I stayed on pavement.
