Hello all! I’ve had my LC since last July. I couldn’t wait to buy this rig. I’ve lifted it, put on 35’s, made it capable to do what I need it to do. One thing I’m having trouble getting past is the sound of the engine under normal acceleration. It sounds awful! Like a really old four cylinder engine. My prior LC WAS A 2018 with a wonderful V8. Does anyone have any suggestions for muting this sound? I’m getting desperate. I’m seriously thinking of selling this rig if I can’t find a solution. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I know it sounds stupid for me to put such a high priority on this, but for a car costing that much,I just wish it sounded better.

Maybe that’s why Toyota sellls an upgraded stainless steel exhaust system as a $1200 option on 2025 models now. It should be available at your local dealer’s parts department too.

Presumably the stock exhaust system is stainless also. At least I would certainly hope so. Would sure like to know what components are included for 1200 Toyota dollars.

Toyota/TRD engineering/development time likely is not inexpensive. Ed Martin Toyota did a video showing the difference:

has anyone tried one of those generic engine plastic covers that are out there to see if that helps insulate some of the obnoxious sounds coming from it?

I have installed the underhood sound damping liner from ResoNix. Engine clatter is still high at full throttle but highway cruising is a little better.

Actually, that’s exactly what it sounds like, hahahaha.

I just returned from Singapore where 8 of 10 vehicles on the road are Toyotas. I rode in a couple dozen Grab cars (like Uber). They all sounded just like our LCs.

I don’t love the engine sound either but I think it is what it is.

on the subject of the "sound", has anyone put their finger on it, literally? i'd imagine you'd need the vehicle on a dyno and put it on a load under part throttle and listen for and physically touch the origin of the clatter. i'd like to know if it's an injector thing that could potentially be sound deadened with some sort of cover or if the sound we hear is engine internals/electric motor related (i truly hope not!)

i hear it when i'm driving and there's a curb on the driver's side of the road, the sound reflects back up through my open window. if i hear it, everyone around me hears it. this is my only gripe with my LC.

Net exactly sure of your end goal but it you don’t care about mileage, I saw a test they put heavier oil in and it quieted this engine a lot. 5W-20 or 30 I think.

Get the RevHeads app for your iPhone, and a compatible Bluetooth OBD-II adapter. I'm sure something similar exists for other phones. You can pick canned engine sounds from a chainsaw to a Ferrari. Seems like Toyota has a version of this feature built-in to the ECU, so maybe someone will hack the output sound. Won't impress any pedestrians, but you can pretend you're driving a Testarossa.
