My wife’s 1958 is supposed to arrive in the next month. With that being said, we are changing tires prior to delivery through the dealership. Since 245 70 R18 are stock and I am increasing to 265 70 R18, will there be a discrepancy in the speedometer?

The reason I ask is because of the stock 265 70 R18 tires that come on the Land Cruiser and FE models. Didn’t know if they were geared different or not and whether it would make a noticeable difference?

This site will give you a pretty good idea wat the difference is. But remember not all brands will be consistent between sizes.

Not positive but I believe the Dealer may have the ability to change the tire size in the BDM (or what ever module controls the speedo) which will calculate the speedo.

Dealership said they couldn’t do it. It’s only 2 mph difference.

I could be wrong but it seems Toyota set them all for 265s even though mine was 245/70/18 stock. My 275/70/18s consistently read 1 mph below my gps phone app speedo. The stock 245s started out reading 2-3mph over. Which means Toyota may have preset them all for 265s or it automatically updates with its own GPS.

It’s interesting, my speedometer is still reading one or two MPH over actual based on GPS speed readings even on oversized 275/70R18 tires, but my odometer is running about 4.5 percent under actual.
