Not a Dongar issue, a Land Cruiser issue. It seems to be possible to drain the 12V battery maybe a little too easily? FWIW I have a plug in hybrid Volvo that suffers from the same weakness. All that battery onboard and yet the 12V battery runs all the accessories and can go dead.
Just an FYI -- unfortunately a number of people here have had issues with the 12V battery getting too low. Something about keeping it charged isn't working as expected.
In this video, the host also finds the AT4W's to be the worst of the pack in snow, but great in everything else. The AT4W is his first choice overall. It just doesn't keep up in the snow.
The part I don't understand is that even if the light from the projector was unpolarized, using the windshield to reflect the light will polarize the light -- to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the angle, but still the same problem for most useful angles of reflection.
You can see...

275/70/R18 will fit fine on stock 18" wheels and will fit in the spare tire location. Last I checked they only come in E load in that size which is heavy...
I'm a little confused by that -- they mention that both the projector and the windshield cause polarization, but they've only addressed the projector end of things? You's still have to come up with a way to keep the reflected image from being polarized.
Further off topic: we were in Joshua Tree on Monday Veterans Day which was a free day in the national parks. The local search and rescue folks were gathering donations at the gate, we ended up talking to one of them for a short while about the FJ!
That's similar to the FJ in overall trends. This trip (getting there and back) was mostly local highways and there's where it does best. Things really plummet on the interstate due to aerodynamics (or a lack thereof) just as with the Land Cruiser.
The Land Cruiser's unexpectedly poor mpg (vs...
Various thoughts after a weekend in part spent off-road (in my FJ):
Every time I drive my Heritage Blue FJ I think I should get a Heritage Blue Land Cruiser. People complement the color all the time, one said he'd never seen it on an FJ before (only the final US year special edition had it)...
Factory offsets are 70 or 60. The wheels for the nearly identical Lexus GX550 are 50. Icon has a video where they test different offsets for 18" wheels and concluded that of their wheels (vs. stock), 40 was the best offset for upsizing tires, if they pushed out beyond that (to their 25 offset...
I have a few options in terms of what’s theoretically available on my spreadsheet (look at the bottom of the 18” tire & 20” tire tabs). The only two SL stock size 18” options I found when I looked earlier were Hankook Winter i Pike X and the Michelin X-Ice Snow (with the second possibly not...
For anyone who has the upgraded front skid plate, is the mounting point reinforced in any way or would it have this same problem? A thicker plate isn’t going to help if the mounting point is still weak.
FWIW I’m trying to add any similar to stock 40+ offset 18” wheels I hear about to my spreadsheet — second tab/sheet. If you know of 40 to 60 offset 18” Land Cruiser accessible wheels I don’t have on there, let me know.
If anyone is looking to replace their 20" wheels, this fellow has a set of four Tacoma 18" 45 offset wheels in Mill Valley. He's currently asking about the same you could buy them from some dealers for though. I thought about trying to talk him down and storing these in the garage until I get...
I’m making this post mostly so people see there’s a regional forum now. If you have stuff to sell locally, or want to organize a get together, etc.
Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for the right Land Cruiser to come along . . .
There’s a solution for that! This forum software makes it so admins can merge threads. I suggested that a while back, when duplicate threads appear they should just be merged. Of course that is more work for admins. They’d probably need users to tag threads as duplicates.
It works on other forums? I’ve been on the FJ Cruiser forums since 2007, it works well there. We don’t have nearly the critical mass here yet that they have there, but we’ll get there.
And again, people use the regional forums for regional issues, and the general forums for everything else...
