Real World mpg

Rhea, or Meigs County? My family of origin has roots all over Meigs County, and especially Decatur. A road, and a ridge are both named after them.

When I was a young child, my family spent many weeks, of many summers, at Pete Smith’s Watt’s Bar resort. Ton’s and ton’s of great child hood memories from their. I even took my first wife there for our first, and second honeymoon, and later our young children. They loved it too.

Rhea. We moved here about 3 years ago. I mostly like it but we are moving soon to wnc. My mailing address is spring city fwiw.

I've noticed that driving:
  • 65-75MPG - roughly 16.5MPG
  • 85MPH - 19MPG
91, lots of stoplights - in & around los angeles :\
 
I ran in ECO from Duck NC- south to the ferry at Hatteras with one heck of a tail wind and registered 36.9. The return trip with the head wind was 22.4.
 
Recently I had a little real world trip:
  • approximately 500 miles, 9h of driving
  • stock 18" wheels + stock tires + stock roof rails + crossbars
  • temperature range from 40 to 70f
  • up and down hill (over the cascades and back)
  • straight and mountain roads
  • speed mostly between 55 and 80mph, but I got stuck in a traffic jam for 1.5h + some residential driving to get on and off the freeway
  • it was raining for 2-3h, and were couple tiny sections with snow
  • no any off-roading this time ((

Ended up with 22.0mpg

Also, fwiw I got break in oil change at 1300m before the trip.

With Westcott roofrack and two pelican vaults on top I’ve been averaging 21.5-22.5 with majority highway.

The key is to keep Rpm’s at 2 or under. Use eco and cruise as much as possible, but assist your cruise to avoid unnecessary braking or excessive accelerating. AC off when conditions allow.

Any significant wind except tail wind will tank performance down to 17-19 highway
 
So far at about 1300 miles mine is claiming an average of 20.6 MPG mixed in town and highway.
 
700 miles on the ODO, stock LCLC, premium gas. Type of driving is all over the place and overall average is a few points shy of 22mpg but breaking it down the 15 minute, 2 mile out and back school drop off every morning averages in the mid-teens, mixed surface road/highway commutes to work are in the low mid 20's and this past weekend we took a drive from Denver to Garden of the Gods (60miles, 1000' elevation gain, 95% interstate) that averaged 25.6 mpg there and 29.9 mpg back. Weather was sunny in the mid 70's not much wind, Saturn is in retrograde, Mercury is rising in Scorpio, I always circle the car clockwise before entering and honk three times before pressing Start. YMMV.

You can get maybe .4mpg more by honking a fourth time and driving during periods of solar maximum only
 
Nearly 1000 miles on mine:
Average MPG: 21.6
Best MPG: 23.2

I'm in ECO mode 99% of the time and feather-light on the accelerator. This is with the 18" Nitto tires, 70% highway speeds, and I live in the low country of SC - flat! About 100 miles was in Francis Marion NP, averaging 20 MPH that day. If it matters, I only use Exxon or Shell fuel with the higher level of detergents. When I can't get either, I add the detergent.

Overall, I'm happy. I wasn't expecting to break 20 MPG.
 
I just hit 1,000 miles:

First 500 miles: 24.2 MPG
Next 500 miles: 25.1 MPG

This is on a 1958 with stock 18" Yokohama 245/70R18 tires and no roof rack. Mostly easy highway commuting miles. I've been taking it easy with the new engine, but not hypermiling.

Road conditions: sun, rain, snow, fog, wind, you name it (driving form North to South through mountain range)
Speed: 70% of the miles were between 75 and 85mph, a bit of stop and go and city driving (1-3% of total miles), the rest was slower freeway with speed between 65-75mph
Road: 30% of the road went through mountains, up/downhill/winding, had to push gas pedal hard to keep up with traffic 😬
