Car Camping Solution

I went camping in the LC for the first time last weekend. I bought a 4 inch thick Thermarest sleep pad. I then just placed a folded blanked at the edge of backseat. You couldn't feel the step down from the seat to the floor. You could feel the incline a little but overall wasn't bad for a cheaper solution.

I did this same thing. Works for me

I bought a few sturdier foldable boxes (They are just 4-inch thick when folded) to pad the trunk. In the day time I can put all my sleeping bag and pad in these boxes. It is way more flexible than the fixed flatbed platform, and way cheaper as well. For a multi-use vehicle (instead of dedicated full time overlanding) I find it is the best arrangement.

This is my solution. Way better than these $1000 permanent platform camping build

I originally posted this in the wrong thread so I deleted it….
I made my own “Bam-Beds” style platform. Pretty happy with how it turned out especially since I used scrapped plywood flooring and have almost no carpentry skills.

Now I just leave the lids off the 3 storage bins and have enough room under the platform to store the air mattress under for “hidden” storage

Hopefully you've got it strapped to the floor, could become a large flying object in an accident.
Unless people run into my car in high speed while I camp in it otherwise I do not particularly worried about it. During my trip there are usually enough weight on the top of them and at home I don’t really keep these box in the car. Various random objects in the first row and second row is probably going to be more of a concern, and my travel partner also have a bad habit putting his/her legs on the windshield. If your car is rolling tons of stuff could hurt you bad anyway

Hi, all! First post here. Solid Wood Worx in San Diego just started making pre-cut kits for the 2024 Land Cruiser. I got one installed a couple of months ago and have been incredibly happy with it so far. It comes with a foldable bed extension and two slide-out drawers with really well-thought-out organization systems.

Check out their website for the pre-cut kit and diy installation info:

So far I've only done a couple of short surf/camp trips, but it's been a blast. I'm still figuring out the best mattress solution - the last time I slept in the car I just threw some old couch cushions in there and headspace did feel a little tight, but still manageable. I'm checking out a few options but aiming to try and find a 3-4" solution.

I couldn't get the demo video to save when I uploaded it here, but checkout their IG page to see the detailed kit. Also sharing a couple of photos from a local surf / camping weekend.

Same setup brother from Solid Wood Worx and I love it!! Three months in and several camping trips later, there is nothing I would change with it. btw, I went with the Exped for a mattress pad…see my photos, but it fits perfectly on the sleeper while still allowing some overhead room. See you around SD.

Amazing! Love it. Thanks for the tip.

Which Exped did you go with? Long-wide, queen?
