It all boils down to range anxiety.

I had a 2020 Tundra with at 38 gallon tank. If I filled up with 50 miles to empty, I could barely get 30 gallons in the tank. It was very frustrating coming from Fords with 36 gallon tanks that seemed to show real fuel range left. I’ve heard it is because Toyota doesn’t want your fuel level to get so low that your tank doesn’t have enough fuel to properly cool the fuel pump. This is just a theory I read.

You guys are funny with all this 'Range Anxiety' talk. My old 2013 Nissan Leaf is like... 'Hold my beer...'

75ish miles on a good day, 30 if you were lucky while running the heat full blast during a snow storm. Apples to oranges I know, but had a few close call out there!

I just renewed AAA membership
Toyota will send gas as part of the roadside assistance that you purchased with the vehicle. Press the red overhead button under the clear shield.

My refill with 1 mile remaining was 15.5 gallons.

Interesting to hear people getting different amounts left in the tank at empty. I ran mine down to zero. It doesn't actually display zero, it displays the word 'refuel". I had about a gallon left in reserve, definitely not two.

I put gas in it when it needs it, usually down around 30 miles to go. Outside of that, I don't really care. I fill up and it says how far I can go if I maintain consistent MPG, which usually is around 300 miles. Seems pretty straightforward.
It is pretty straightforward on pavement and in 95% of the US. But, we travel in situations in which we calculate our fuel range very carefully and usually have to carry a spare gallon or two. So, an accurate readout of fuel remaining is very important

My counterpoint to that would be that if you're stuck because of a few gallons of gas, you're doing it wrong.

My friend just bought a 24 Fourrunner, 2WD, SR5(?). It has a 23 gallon fuel tank. I wonder if it could be mounted on our 2024 LC’s? 🤔

There are multiple threads on MPG numbers, regular vs. premium gas, mods for gas tanks. After driving to near empty to remove the wrong grade gas (don't send your teenager to the gas station) I observed that the fuel level display seems designed to create range anxiety. Even with 1/4 tank showing, to me it looks like I'm about to run dry. I may have turned it off, but also did not get any low-fuel warning even down to 30 miles left (when I gave in and filled up). To me, the fuel display is not as effective as it should be, especially in a vehicle designed for driving in places where no help is coming if you run out of gas.

I'm sure I will get used to it, but would like to have a display that doesn't cause me to worry about remaining fuel.
You'll get used to it, and will eventually be thankful for the heads up. My Tundra can run for about 65 km (40 miles) after the low fuel indicator comes on and it says 0 km remaining, and will still have over a gallon of gas left when I fill up. On the other hand, we had an Audi (or maybe it was a BMW) that when the low fuel indicator came on, you had very few km to empty, and when it said 0 km left, you had 0 km left!

Ask me which is worse. And ask me how I know.

Perhaps mentioned already ... the LC250 model sold in the middle east and other markets with the same T24A-FTS 2.4l engine used on US models, gasoline (not diesel), without the hybrid has a 29 gal tank and gets 25mpg (~700 mile range)

I did that.. filled up the tank with 16.9 gallons, on my initial fill up.

Early on, I had about 300 mile range when i filled up. Now, I routinely have slightly over 350 range immediately after I fill up.

The Distance to Empty will gradually update based on your average MPG. :) The better MPG you get, the bigger the DTE number gets.
