Why swap 20" wheels for 18" wheels?

I've driven the LC with both size 18 inch tires, and purchased with 20" wheels (because of other reasons). The small 18 tires handled well on the highway. The larger 18" tires, especially if they're of off road type, did NOT work well for me on the highway. It was way to wallowy for me.

The 20" rides a little harsh for me, but I do appreciate the handling. In the real world I drive a lot on the highway and drive "Spiritedly" in general. Because of that, the 20's work. I feel a 19" would be a perfect compromise.

In my experience off road vehicle owners opt for larger wheels and tires for
improved ground clearance. Yet I see a number of posts on the Marketplace for
folks wanting to trade 20" for 18". Can someone explain why? Thanks.
I am on my fifth Landcruiser

The 2017 I drive right now. I love these. 285/60/18
: they are big ass tires.
Try cruising through Corpus Christi with not much rubber between your rim and the road

San Antonio is not much better up here by Castle HILLS either

Main thing is keep the diameter of the tire the same as the original tire and your speedometer will be the same

Putting 275โ€™s where 245โ€™s go
Your speedometer would be 5 mph off

Worse yet
youโ€™ve got higher gear rear end with the
Larger diameter tires if they are

That puts more stress on your transmission and differentials

I had to be super careful with a diameter of these tires on my (66) big block corvette

And went through the same thing on the 2023 regular cab F150 completely loaded up

Nothing is easy ha ha

I guess we should all just be glad they brought the darn Landcruiser back

I'm a newbie. What's Hutchinson true beadlocks?
Those are true beadlock wheels by Hutchinson. Those wheels allow you run super low psi 5-8psi without problems such as air leaking out and/or tires pop out from wheels. They are really expensive and worth for extreme off-roaders.
Attached photo shows you how itโ€™s constructed

Welcome to the dark side.
We used them on Hummers and many other military vehicles, a true bead lock and bomb proof.
The only DOT approved beadlock in the US.
I have rock monsters on my built out Jeep.

If i ever get real serious with the Cruiser, which I doubt, Rock Monsters.
Heavier but the final word in tire mounting lock technology.
Hutchison's with sand tires in the summer in the desert, oh my!
