I do not recall seeing any photos or videos of the hybrid battery sitting under the raised floor.
This video attached, from first minute to the seven minute mark, does an excellent job of showing the battery. Also a theory for why the LC in Australia went dead after hitting a shallow water crossing at high speed.
* I assume all hybrid batteries are the same - Australia/U.S

A mild hybrid with a small 48V battery in Australia? A different setup? Somehow I was under the mistaken impression all the LC's (Prado) in Australia were diesel. Or, could it possibly be a diesel/hybrid?

I believe a diesel hybrid. Must be. They use the "blue" something or other that they add next to the diesel which I believe is an additive.

Most likely as here in the US., yes, all recent diesel vehicles require the use of an AdBlue (DEF) fluid to meet emissions. It is Urea. Many have joked one could pee in the AdBlue tank to replenish. :)

The big question to me is - " is this really how the LC in Australia was damaged when it drove through that rather small water crossing at a fast speed"? Is it all from that little drain hole at the battery in the rear? This seems unlikely.

IF not familiar with this it was all over the web - Australian YouTuber ruined the LC driving fast through very shallow water. Seemed like odd occurrence.

It seems poor engineering to have the hybrid battery vent out the bottom near the spare tire. Why have such a vulnerable spot for potential water intrusion? Is this something that needs rerouted? @EOD Guy tagging you because youโ€™re one of the smartest (wisest?) guys on here.

I'd like to know if the hybrid setup is the same on US market Land Cruisers? If so, I feel a lot better about replacement cost when the time comes. My only concern is the fan and the cooling ductwork for the battery. I'm guessing that the hybrid fan filter doesn't keep all of the dust out of this system, so what does it take to disassemble the cargo floor to the level shown in this video to give everything a good compressed air cleaning?

Again, this appears to be a 48V mild hybrid system, not used in the United States. Confirm?

The american hybrid system is much bigger, confirmed. you can watch these guys rebuild this LC pretty cool multipart series:

Has anybody confirmed that our hybrid battery does indeed have some kind of vent under the trunk? Iโ€™m installing a diff breather in the next couple days and Iโ€™ll drop my spare and see if I can see anything. Just curious to see if anybodyโ€™s confirmed that or not. Makes me nervous if there is.

Presumably you are thinking of the 12V battery, not the sealed NiMH battery pack?

I thought the video showed the AUS little hybrid battery, same location as ours just way smallerโ€ฆ I assume because theirs is diesel? Not sure and maybe Iโ€™m very wrong about this but it didnโ€™t look like a normal 12v

Appears to definitely be a small hybrid battery. However, not sure what chemistry it is, and if it requires a breather?

Yea Iโ€™m not sure, we have a big hvac system specifically to cool (I assume) our hybrid so I donโ€™t think it would have a vent, but given they rest in that same sort of โ€œvalleyโ€ it would be nice to know. Iโ€™m in Houston so getting 2-4โ€™ of water here isnโ€™t unheard of, Iโ€™d like to cover every base possible with water intrusion, especially if it will completely disable the rig!

Not sure, but is the Pruis a Li-Ion battery? They are more energy dense, but I prefer a Ni-MH battery in the LC. Are you sure, only 14%? Doesn't sound right...
I believe you're correct about the Prius being Li-Ion. From what I've read, the 2024 Land Cruiser Hybrid battery is 1.9 kWh
and the 2024 Prius Hybrid battery 13.6 kWh. Not sure if there is a voltage difference.

That is really disappointing, the LC battery capacity. Considering this, wish there was a non-hybrid variant, as with the Tacoma. 1.9 KWh will barely get one off the line battery-assisted.
