Turning up the fuel

Gday guys, got a non turbo 1hz 80 series and I’m wondering if it’s safe to turn the fuel up a hair (as far as I know it hasn’t been touched) I’m thinking I might be able to get a bit more power out of it and if I’m lucky get her sooting. I don’t have an egt gauge and I heard when those get up you crack pistons, currently only soots on limi and not a whole lot either idk if that’s good or bad diesel is fairly new to me coming from the street scene. I do plan to turbo later on but that’s way down the line for now I’d just like to be able to maintain speed up a hill without reving the tits off it
