There is an article about 250 development in the most recent issue of the Toyota Technical Review (Vol. 70 No. 1):

There is an interesting figure comparing acceleration for the various powertrains:

This seems to show the non-hybrid T24A overtaking the hybrid at a certain point, perhaps due to the added mass of the hybrid system. This could explain why we see slightly quicker 0-60 times for the non-hybrid 4Runner.

Have you noticed anything in the tech literature to justify why the LC wishes premium fuel, versus non-premium for the Tacoma and 4Runner with apparently the same drivetrain?

I would be interested in that as well.

This is not overtaking, y-axis shows acceleration rate. It won’t be able to overtake since hybrid configuration has much higher acceleration rate early on. In other words, If we calculate average acceleration rate, it would be higher for HEV.

The article has some interesting tidbits about the design of our LC.

1. Toyota intended for us to be able to easily switch between round and circular headlamps.

2. The hand rest at the base of the multi-media screen was intentional to help us use the screen even when going over uneven terrain.

3. The color Meteor Shower is actually Avant-Garde Bronze. Heritage Blue is Smoky Blue and Trail Dust is Sand.
4. The best interior color is not yet available to us - and may never be! I want Chateau!

5. The use of electric power steering (EPS) in the LC250 is the first time they've used EPS in the LC. It's designed to prevent kick-back off-road.
6. The SDM increases articulation by about 10%.
7. The front bumper is deliberately designed to be modular for ease of replacement and reduced cost of replacement. In addition, as we've seen with some of the front bumpers (like the DV8), you can incorporate an aftermarket bumper without cutting up a lot of the OEM stuff.
8. Toyota changed how they coat the frames using new techniques with electrodeposition to help our frame stay rust free as long as possible. Let's hope so!
9. Lots of details about how Toyota improved the welds on the frame and body. That's always good.
10. Over and over again the engineers talked about how important it was to make the LC250 highly capable off-road while maintaining on road manners. The engineers want this to be more than a mall crawler.

Here's a nice video showing how the rate of acceleration is related to the time it takes to travel a given distance. Not mentioned in the video is that the velocity of every ball will be the same at the end point.

I just meant overtaken in the Y-axis of that graph.
