Top Gear - Toyota Land Cruiser vs. Defender, G-Class, & Grenadier

Yes, the LC was running. As per the Dyson website, the Big Ball is 250W...this may be considerably less than a kettle! But saying that, you piqued my interest, and I just went out to my work parking lot and boiled 700ml of water in the back of the LC with no issue (motor running).

Are you based in the UK ? And is that a diesel LC250? THANK YOU

Thank you very much, looks like an isolated issue with mine, will have it checked out and report back, cheers
No it’s a different vehicle - don’t you have a UK diesel and that in the picture is a hybrid with an inverter

AHH that makes sense now I'm in the UK and have a diesel LC , there's no inverter or hybrid in that .maybe that's the difference

British Columbia with the mild hybrid. If the diesel was an option in N. America, that would be my first choice.
I agree, Diesel is a better match, especially the torque and fuel range, I had a petrol one in the UAE but it was never as torquey!

Our cruisers are classified as full hybrids and should be distinguished from the diesel mild hybrid available in certain markets. I believe those also have an inverter, though rated at a lower power level.

The ones sold in UK are still not hybrid not even mild pure diesel

I did a bit of pixel peeping and found some differences from US spec:
  • panoramic sunroof
  • no trail hitch
  • stock yokohama geolander a/t tires

UK is 2.8 l diesel - panoramic roof - 7 seats - flat boot as no battery - no inverter - on the FE it’s Dunlop Grandtrek AT23 tyres 18/65/265 - as a result some switches are different - we have the less robust scuff plates and we are 30% more expensive than US

Ditto! I also specked a towbar, hitch in American:) but indeed more expensive...I am told the extra £ is as Toyota has to pay a "penalty" for selling a high emission car to our beloved UK parasites (I meant government)

This video from Top Gear just popped into my YouTube feed, so I thought I’d share it with the group. Not the most technical review or the most experienced off-roaders, but interesting nevertheless.

Very lucky that I owned 2 of those 4. Always give me special feel when drive in town and confident in wilderness / adventure trips.

Evening all, I'm from the UK and own the new Lc250 FE, anyone tried using a kettle in the power socket in the boot?
I used a George Foreman grill to cook up some sausage. Then used an electric griddle to make some pancakes and eggs and an espresso machine on a trip last week. It was one of the best breakfasts ever. The LC can cook.
Come to think of it. This is the US hybrid with 2400w inverter. Seems like this is a diesel engine ask.

Yep

There is supposed to be a diesel 48v battery hybrid coming to UK and Europe but at this point we are diesel only and I’m happy with mine

The engine is noisy by comparison with bigger more sophisticated V6 and V8 lumps and it’s no race car but I’ve done all the sports and track car stuff and came from a V8 Range Rover and I’m happy to have the LC as a vehicle for a purpose

Public roads in the UK are pretty much all now speed controlled - well the motorways and many A roads - and you need to drive the B roads as if a mobile police check is round every corner so the roads are nolonger for exuberant driving

Another shoot up in the mountains of NorthWales next week so will be fun getting the LC back off road
