Random (and possibly dumb) question:

If one were to purchase the upgraded transmission skid plate, since the weight of the original plastic transmission cover is relatively negligible, would it make any sense to try and layer (sandwich) both skids together for a bit of added protection?

If I understand your question correctly, I don't think that would be worth the effort. The amount of 'extra' protection would be negligible, and layering would only decrease ground clearance (although probably not by a large amount, admittedly). The upgraded skid is decently tough itself, and if you need more protection than that, I'd go with a thicker skid instead.

Has anyone installed the RCI transfer case skid with the beefier Toyota transmission skid plate? I think it's the only separate transfer case skid in the aftermarket so far.

I'm toying with the idea of running the RCI transfer case skid with the Toyota skids, but it looks like it will need at least a hole drilled through the RCI skid to mount the Toyota transmission plate through it. I called RCI to see if they'd installed it with these and got the generic "it should work cause we design it to run with stock skid plates."

Green highlights show where RCI transfer skid bolts up. So the blue OE Hardware bolt would have to go through the RCI transfer skid on RH side:

Resurrecting an old thread here but I’ve yet to find a definitive answer to this question: Has anyone installed the RCI transfer case with the OEM First Edition transmission skid? I’m wanting to order the RCI plate but don’t care to do a bunch of cutting or other mods. RCI says it “should” fit. Anyone made this mod?

Just changed the oil and dropped the skids for a hose down, they’re doing their job! (Battle scars from 200 miles of off road on the WABDR)
