My 4runner nav works while offroading in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. Still shows maps, can pick saved addresses, etc.

But the Landcruiser keeps trying to search with the internet and the maps don't work while out of the city. Anyone else having this problem or know how to disable internet search which DOES NOT LOAD and just has the loading screen forever. This NAV is kinda worthless offroad.

Yes, it's useless offline, but you really should be using something like OnX or Gaia via Carplay/Android Auto anyways!

Wow. There's no point in having built in navigation if it doesn't work when you're out of cell range. That's a bug. Please complain to Toyota.

We drove through an area with no cell coverage today. Even though I’d put the route in while still in good coverage, when we got to the area with no coverage the built in navigation had nearly no map data, just a crude map of the interstate only, no local roads or exits. You need constant cell coverage for it to download maps on demand. As a bonus we discovered you can’t change driver profiles without an internet connection!

Just to mention that you can also encounter situations where gps doesn’t work well, if at all. Driving through a canyon or next to a tall ridge line come to mind. I like to know where I’m going with minimal help from technology. Downloading maps beforehand is a good option, but not infallible.
