would it be good/ bad/ great/ terrible idea to switch the TRD wheels/ tire combo from my previous 4Runner? I live in Utah and the stock 1958 geolanders were not confidence inspiring in the snow, I never really had an issue in the snow with the grandtreks but I will be replacing the tires sometime before next winter regardless of the rim..the TRD rims are 17in vs the 18in 1958s but is there any other reasons I should or should not?

Check out the clearance between the brake caliper and the 17” rim. I have the same rims but I didn’t even try them on. The limited amount of clearance could cause issues with rocks/gravel getting wedged in between calipers and rim but it’s not that big of an issue, especially if you don’t plan to go off-road. Offset is probably different also but I don’t think it’s enough difference to cause issues especially if you don’t get wider tires.

Quite a few people are dumping the 1958 wheels for other options although I like them just fine. Maybe you can find a second set for cheap (I did.) Then you can get real winter tires, which will massively improve performance. I just switched out my winter Blizzaks last week.

I don't hate the LC wheels, but I certainly like the look of the TRD ones better and have the option to switch the whole wheelset so am considering it....if you're referring to the geolanders though, I had some pretty scary moments over the winter I can't say I'm a fan.

The Geolanders are not winter tires and even lack the 3peak snow and ice rating. True winter tires have different rubber composition and stipe designs that grip under cold icy conditions. Well worth it if you have snow and ice to deal with on a regular basis in winter.

Had the same X-CV but on 20" rims, kept the rims but switched to GEO G015's. All terrain/all road
