Is the New 2025 Lexus LX OVERTRAIL the Land Cruiser You Always Wanted?

Yeah no, not for me. I just can’t get past the absolutely hideous design. It’s like an ugly minivan with cheap “bling” added to it to make it look fancy. A 70-series would probably be my dream Land Cruiser, but the J250 is far superior for me than any of the modern Land Cruisers in the Station Wagon line (200, 300, and their Lexus counterparts).

I can't believe they went with that front end on a new Lexus. Did they only look at the old GX for design inspiration?
Every Lexus suv for the last few years has been horrifically ugly. The back ends look weighted down with cheap plastic, the front end grill looks like darth vader. It’s one of the ugliest identifiable vehicle profiles. The GX is a little better because it’s a bit narrower, but overall Lexus SUV’s are the ugliest on the road this side of the cyber truck

Looked at the LX. It's an ugly beast. The interior is so outdated! You could buy a 1958 and a base LC and have one specifically for off road and another to mall crawl for the same cost. I've hated the spindle grill ever since Takeshi Tanabe put that hideous monster on the Lexus and Toyota products. Thank goodness they are starting to move away from it. Hard pass. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

The GX550 is a big improvement in Lexus styling, but it’s a low bar.

The 300 series body is just too big for the chassis. While the true dimensions aren't that much different between the two, the proportions look so much better on the LC and GX. Much more high and tight versus being purpose confused like the LX. Also, I'd never spend that much money on a vehicle, so my opinion ultimately doesn't matter to Toyota/Lexus regarding this particular vehicle.

Nope, too big, too heavy, too expensive. And does not look tough enough for the Land Cruiser name badge.
Well it doesn’t bear the Land Cruiser name badge so all good on that front.

Even if I could buy one for what I paid for my 250, it's still a pass.

Yes, and maybe when one comes off lease, I can afford one. I'd have to "down badge" it to a Toyota though, 'cause, you know, Lexus badge is a bit too flashy to me. I like a big comfy suv, so if I can have an even plusher version of the 250, I'm here for it.

That is butt ugly. I could swing the money but wouldn't. I like my LC FE

Wait. Tough enough? Tough enough like this? Let's be honest with ourselves here.

....

One thing I was NOT impressed with, is that my truck wasn't drivable after the collision. I got an error message saying 'Hybrid System Compromised - Tow to Dealer' and I was able to limp it into a parking lot to await a tow. I understand the need to protect the battery, but then shut it down and let me drive without HEV!

Now I have to wait for insurance to do their thing, then it goes to the bodyshop for who knows how long... I hope parts are easy to get by now.

I saw one in person, exactly set up as in the vid overtraining version in earth like color.

Going off exterior aesthetic only - lc250 by a landslide.

However I imagine the car is a dream to drive - bigger, more comfy/plush/luxurious and more power than the lc250.

Here’s to hoping they figure out the front end design in 10 years when I’m ready to make my 250 my “fun adventure car” and am in the market for a new daily.

I was referring to the looks alone, not the drivetrain. The Lexus looks too luxurious to be a "land cruiser"/off roader/rock crawler.

Similar to the G wagon, plenty capable off road, but the look fits more of a mall crawler.

Not sure if you saw my update, but the REAR-end collision caused the intake tube to crack and disconnect from the throttle body... Insurance and Toyota didn't attribute it to the collision... I don't understand how not, but I also understand why they couldn't conflagrate the two because something in the engine bay shouldn't break from being rear-ended, but I guess the forces were great enough that a weak point cracked.
