This is the only way I found out how to do it. Annoying how they got rid of the dedicated button to reset things.

The center display "Update" button will reset your "Total Average" fuel economy, not the trip odometer. I have been hitting that update button on gas refills to simulate "tank average" MPG. I wish it included the distance as well though in the history.
