Re: 3, I think you can mount things on the circular holes.I have been looking for accessories and mounts for my First Edition roof rack but it seems nobody is making one custom enough to fit it. There are a few issues I have right now with the generic accessory
1. The crossbar is not flat. It has a special profile.
2. The crossbar location can’t exactly be adjusted. In addition, it seems there are 5 anchor locations for the crossbars but there was only 4 crossbar provided.
3. If I want to mount lighter stuff on the side, for things like shovel, traction pads, the cut -out pattern seems to be too specific for any common mount to get bolted on it safely. (these cut-out might work pretty well if you want to mount additional camping light on it, but I am not sure what size is it designed for)
Right now I am looking for a nice Potomac mount on the roof rack. The best thing I can find is to use the factory rotopax mount with the part from Rhino-rack like this:
But this likely won’t secure the rotopax on the roof rack enough given that weird profile.
I wonder if there are somebody making a flat crossbar or even some sort of “bracket” that can turn the factory roof rack into a more accessory friendly design.
For a roof-rack priced at $1300, the quality of this work is really poor if you ask me.
When I say standard, I’m talking about the industry of extrusions
The only issue would be the gap between the inner frame of the roof rack and the outer trim plate. I don't remember offhand how much room there is, but it wasn't a lot. Would not cut the inner frame unless you boxed it back in to restore the strength. I have toyed with the idea of cutting the outer trim plate to recess the lights and attach them to the inner frame. This could be a dumb idea…I been wanting to put on roof rack lights. I just hate how most of them look. Got this idea of a stealth look where I mount a light bar behind the slots on the side. The slots are 3ish inch’s and the holes on the sides are 5.5 inches. I believe something like this should work. What do you all think could this work?
Hmmm I had not thought of thatThe only issue would be the gap between the inner frame of the roof rack and the outer trim plate. I don't remember offhand how much room there is, but it wasn't a lot. Oh snap that will be awesome! You could look at something like this to mount them on the side. If you could get me the dimensions I could design a backer plate that could house the included nylock nuts to screw the included hardware into. I am going to be designing a backer plate for my buddy's 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro for that mount too. This is what mine looks like on my Victory 4x4 rack.
