drove my FE first time at night . The display on dash was way too bright . I had to stop and change setting auto to night . That made it much better . Then when I put on Apple car play screen of my phone bright again , I could figure how to darken screen on home page of phone . Phone setting to dark didn’t help . Also I have been hunting for dial that darkens the interior lights / dash screen speedo tach area .
I would love to know how and where .
The auto display is suppose to adjust brightness based on time of day and ambient lighting

I found that and on auto it was not making the screen dark enough for night driving . I tried adjusting the brightness and no luck . I switched off auto and manually put it to night mode . Which was good , except when I was using apple car play and the display was on Home Screen that shows all your apps . It was still very bright, adjusting my phone display brightness had no effect. I still can’t find a roller dial to adjust interior lighting

Thanks i found what the problem was the rotary dial for interior light was locked full once i rolled it down off lock the auto setting worked fine for both apple and display
The hud display is on steering wheel thru MID adjustment .

Glad you got it worked out. It's so light out this time of year I don't drive much after dark. When winter comes I'll be squared away after reading this thread. :ROFLMAO:

I had a similar problem the first time I tried to back up my Escape 21 trailer at night. THe backup lights blinded me on the dashboard screen. I had to throw a towel over it to back up. GM fixed the issue in a sofware update. Glad you got it fixed.

Posted this on another thread, but I find it much better with the black background:

I just realized other than adjusting the brightness knob, I have to turn on the headlight to make the screen switch to dark mode automatically. I didn't know that before.
