Did you have to lower the spare to install yours? I tried installing mine which I previously had on the my tundra and couldn't get the plugs past the spare.

Did not have to. Maybe I've got little Asian hands .

No. I easily unplugged the existing plug and installed the light. You shouldn't have to lower the spare tire.
