Please tell me I am wrong but I just realized this morning I don't have rear side view defrosters on my 1958. Power mirrors, yep, power-folding mirrors, yep, heated wiper blade thingy, yep. Ok, totally my fault for not knowing this, but I never saw it in any written material and (wrongfully) presumed they had defrosters since ever car I have owned since 1992 had them, mostly as a standard feature. I didn't want leather, no need for a sunroof so the 1958 fit what I was looking for. I do wish they had some options, for example, adding the 12" screen and better radio but nothing else. But, not having side rear defrosters here in the winter is a pain in the butt. Has anyone added them yet, or have any suggestions?

No symbol etched in the mirror glass = no heated glass.

One would think, but the 1958 has none. Ugh
My kid has 2019 Toyota C-HR (little car/SUV) and it even has them. Come on Toyota, a LOT of us live or drive in the snow and places where this is a simple and needed safety feature.

There are aftermarket options available, search Amazon for heated side mirror and you will find stuff like: Amazon

This is not true. I have been using it a lot on my 24’ 1958. Press the rear defrost button and it will start clearing the side mirror with a warm spot growing from the center of the glass. Here in Georgia this past week we’ve had that weird weather that slaps your windshield and outside mirrors with instant fog covering in low lying areas on your way to work. Press the button and the fog and moisture dissipates in a minute or so.

I had the rear defroster on today, because the mirrors fogged when I pulled out of the garage, and after about 10 minutes they were still fogged. The back window was however cleared.

Idk, im not convinced. ive witnessed my mirrors defrost even today, front / rear defrost must do it…
Pretty easy to tell............. if you have the defrost icon etched in the mirror, they're heated.......... if you don't, they're not.

These are not my pictures, they belong to another member who installed heated glass in his 1958.

Has anyone ever added heated mirrors? Sometimes it is just a matter of switching out the glass and plugging in a connector (I am hoping)

Truly ridiculous, i barely dodged that disappointment! You would think defrost on side mirrors would be a requirement for all vehicles, especially with all the nannies being forced on the automakers. I cant believe my LC LC doesnt have auto dimming side mirrors either, or even have the option for them. I will say that having to have rear defrost on to activate side mirror defrost is a waste of energy. My side mirrors fog up all the time, rear window just needs wiper on intermittent.

The mirror on the right is a JDM convex driver's mirror. It's heated but, for some reason, does not have the heated icon.

It's pretty easy to determine if the mirror is heated by turning on the rear defrost and feeling each mirror after 5 minutes to see if it's warm.

They sell mirrors for the Land Cruiser in both heated and non-heated. I wonder if they made a change at some point and the 1958 no longer has heated mirrors.

My 2024 does not have heated mirrors.

When did they start putting any heaters at all in the 1958's? :p 🍻

Toyota has fallen behind in CSR and creating value in their SUV portfolio. Sad

This is incorrect. I am in Northern Canada, and can confirm that on the 2024 1958, the side mirrors do not defrost.

Once again, and it's been said on this forum, if the side mirror does not have the heated symbol, then no heat. The upper trims have the symbol but not the 1958. Now if I could just buy the heated mirror inserts, I would. However, I don't know if the wiring exists in the mirror housing.
