So the CarPlay has been randomly disconnecting for a while now which started back around new years but has been getting really bad in the last few months. I went to the dealer for an oil change and mentioned this issue. I was not expecting much, and the dealer did not disappoint (even with video of the issue). They did however rebook the infotainment hoping that would fix it (it didn't).
My wife's Chevrolet has no issues with wireless CarPlay, and am amazed how many variations of CarPlay there are among brands. For example Subaru and Chevrolet mute the speakers when you summon Siri; not Toyota. I really like how Chevrolet even stops the HVAC fan from blowing during communications with Siri. Anyways I digress.
Realizing the dealer was going to provide zero help, I dug a bit further, and it seems IOS 18.X has been a bit flaky with Toyota. Looking into some of the settings on my phone I have made a few changes that appear to resolve the problem.
In the Settings => CarPlay => Toyota Land Cruiser there are a couple of changes I made that made things more stable.
1 - Disable Enhanced Integration. I really do not know what it does but I did not see any change.
2- Remove Home Screen Icons. I suspect some of the issue is potentially one of the apps; I do not know which; but I removed all the optional apps except my calendar. The apps removed included 3 X for EV charges (wife's Bolt) Sirius XM (not really needed with the head unit) Google Maps (I use Apple Maps for better or worse) and a few restaurants which I have never ordered from on the head unit.
A Couple hundred miles later it seems CarPlay works (again).
