Apple Car Play with Toyota App Side Bar

Are you all downloading this info via USB? If so, where is the USB port?
You can see the Model Info through the software update selection IIRC. No USB needed, it's displayed on the screen.

I wondered the same thing as I can only find USB-C ports in my LC.
There are three USB-C ports. Two are for charging only. The third one should work as a regular USB port, but you may need an adapter for your connector. You can probably use a USB-C flash drive or a regular USB 2 Flash drive with an adapter. Whichever one you use, just make sure it’s formatted in accordance with the manual for compatibility.

Yesterday, I had my 5K oil change done at the dealership due to the cold weather.......Ouch! When I picked it up, the sidebar had disappeared and now I'm wondering if it has anything to do with sequence of the LC being started and ran without connecting to my iPhone/carplay. I have to run some errands today and I'll play around to see if it'll come back.
Did you check your software version before you took it in? They may have updated it while you were there.

From a 1958 purchased in early August:

Part no: 8614060Q60
SAM ID: CBAAAPLJAZ
SCOMO ID: 21TNENAC0012HU0000
Version: 1720

My UI indicates “no updates available” but I’ve never bothered to set up an online account or download an update by computer. I do not have the Toyota UI sidebar when CarPlay is displayed

You may already know this, but the sidebar in question shows the Toyota menu items. Example - it shows the music symbol (♫) that one would select to change to a different music source, such as the radio.

We’re not talking about the vertical sidebar within CarPlay that shows a few of your most-recently used Apps. Everyone should have that.
You are correct......... I already knew that.

After an hour of trying to figure this out, I failed on all counts. It makes me question if I was looking at the Toyota Maps screen vs CarPlay Maps screen when I saw the Toyota sidebar. Whichever the case it's not there now.

I did learn the following about the 3 icons on the CarPlay screen sidebar.

They are the most recently used apps:
Top icon is Navigation
Middle icon is Music/podcasts
Bottom icon is Phone/messages/ and everything else (except the Toyota app)

There doesn't appear to be a way to delete one or add one.

The next best thing I came up with was to rearrange the main screen icons so that the "Toyota" icon was bottom L/H corner of the screen which is way easier to find/touch than where it was on the screen.

+1. My SAM ID is different but everything else is the same and no sidebar.

I was going to follow the instructions from this site but I dont remember seeing an Output info to USB memory option.

On my 1958, I really prefer not to have a smaller overall CarPlay display just to make space for a vertical sidebar of the Toyo UI. I rarely need to exit out of CarPlay and I’m content using the Toyota app (within CarPlay) to do so.

That link, when selecting by vehicle and year, only goes to 2021 for LandCruiser. Maybe putting in a VIN will show updates available for the LC250s.

Followed the instructions on the Toyota website for my 2024. Entered VIN, downloaded OEM file from truck to USB, and then uploaded to the Toyota website for evaluation. The response from Toyota states that I have the current version though I still do not have the Toyota sidebar shown in the 2025 screenshot. Perhaps there is a difference in the headunits. Also would note the USB flash drive was formatted in FAT32 and read without issue.

I am unable to find the USB-A port to insert my thumb drive into, do you have any idea where that port is located?

Any update on this? Has anyone been able to update to a new software version to add the Toyota sidebar. It really is a pain when using Sirius through the radio unit while using car play.

To this question I can report that it appears that in the latest LC’s coming off the production line have this issue resolved.
My LC is an end-of-December build, 2025 LC/LC Premium package that came off of the truck a few days ago. (Jan 11 2025). Media screen Toyota sidebar always present with Apple CP. It has worked consistently.
I did ask my dealer to make sure all updates were done and they showed me the prep sheet where all updates done at port and at the dealer’s make-ready procedure. Interesting no brake squeal or brake rotor rust - yet.
