Aftermarket Wheel - OEM Studs and Lug Nuts?

Hey all, when you mounted your 18inch aftermarket wheel set, were you able to use the OEM wheel studs and lug nuts?

I just got a set of 18 inch aftermarkets and had to use smaller aftermarket lug nuts (OEMs were too fat to fit), and the OEM studs could only get 4-5 turns by hand before torquing, which causes concern that they aren't safely mounted.

Wondering if this is expected for the the popular aftermarket wheels (Method, Icon, Tacoma TRD, etc.).

I believe you can't use the Toyota Lug nuts with aftermarket wheels. You have to use the long ones aftermarket wheel brand. Make sure you get the socket for the lug nuts it usually come with set. Leave the socket in your vehicle for tire rotation purposes.322 | Gloss Black

I know for a fact on the Taco, when using Method wheels you have to use their "long" lug nuts.

I understand what you are saying! I have the Method 703's using their proprietary wheel nuts and I was kind of surprised that they don't recommend replacing the OE studs with longer one's...the 703's at the hub are several mm's thicker than the OE wheels. I have been checking the wheel nut torque and they've not backed off, spoken with Method customer service and they seem fine with the length and my tire/wheel installer felt it was good as well.

Method has great Customer Service. When I bought my 22 Tundra I wanted the 705's model for it. There was an issue with the 705's rim that they canceled my order and I went with the 703's for the TUNDRA. Call method again they took care of my issue with another set I installed on a GX460 fully refunded. call Method I have contacts if you need them PM

Helpful info. Did you guys have any issue mounting the Method wheel under the stock spare tire holder? Some wheels have smaller center caps, so the metal chain anchor may not be able to fit through to grab the wheel.

I just saw in another thread that your White LC has the Toyota Tacoma TRD wheels on it. Were you able to use the OEM lug nuts, and any issues with grabbing enough thread on the OEM LC wheel studs?

Thread engagement should be equal or greater than the width of the stud. Turning by hand 5x and another 1.5-2 with torque should be ample.
