Honestly… I’ll chip in if others will too. I don’t even have a 1958 but I’d love to help discover this hack because I think it would be huge for 1958 owners. If the community wants to chip in I’ll do the take apart on my vehicle![]()

Should be able to add the disconnecting sway bar and button fairly easy, if you can get your hands on the parts. I remember seeing somewhere on this forum or another that someone bought a LC not realizing Toyota made the SBD optional and the dealer said they were going to get the parts and retrofit it for them. All that it is is a sway bar with hydraulic mechanism and a button, I’d assume all the wiring is there for it.I’ve been looking for sway quick disconnects but there’s nothing for the current land cruiser yet it seems. It was really the only thing I wanted from the higher trim option.
But I’m definitely down to test a button for some software thing too. Grow support out for our Land Cruiser group.
if anybody is interested I have a spare one. Mint condition (it has only ~1K miles on it and it was hidden under another skid plate). It also has its own very small skid plate if you don't have the factory
Yeah I saw that, and as much as I would retrofit it myself, I am also not paying that amount of money to do so.Should be able to add the disconnecting sway bar and button fairly easy, if you can get your hands on the parts. i like hearing this. I would enjoy that in some scenarios and I know the my girlfriend would definitely feel more comfortable with those options.I missed this thread originally because I was spending a week offroading at the time! I can't compare the 1958 to the LC LC MTS, but I can compare my old FJ Cruisers with full time 4WD and ATRAC to it. MTS makes some things offroad feel effortless in comparison. We hit a sandy area, I put it in sand mode, and suddenly the sand was no problem even when we had to climb a sandy hill. Similarly for dirt and gravel, it just knew how to handle a little better. For the most difficult cases, like rock crawling, the FJ with both diffs locked would probably be the same or better, I don't feel like MTS would help with the most difficult cases? But for more just normal but varied driving offroad cases it feels like so much of an upgrade from the FJ.
Not sure where the disconnect would go, but the sway bar is pretty accessible. I don’t think it’ll be difficult to do once something is available. I’ve spent a lot of time crawling around under mine checking everything out, adding skids, and two oil changes, about to do the third next week.Yeah I saw that, and as much as I would retrofit it myself, I am also not paying that amount of money to do so.
Being that I already have the 1958, I am okay with a quick disconnect solution.
I also want to get under there to see how easily accessible that area is to see if full manual disconnection is a quick tackle
Good to hear it’s pretty accessible. I’ve only been inside and up top, not down below yet.Not sure where the disconnect would go, but the sway bar is pretty accessible. I’ll cover $120 if you can get folks to come up with the other half.i like hearing this. I would enjoy that in some scenarios and I know the my girlfriend would definitely feel more comfortable with those options.
So yeah, I’m open to dismantling the interior to check that out for the forums if we can get enough people to chip in.
Think of this as a community fund for prototyping a part on a new vehicle.
I'll pitch in $20.I’ll cover $120 if you can get folks to come up with the other half.
Alright, how should we go about this? That way we can gather who wants to chip in. Then we can figure out how to order this too. Should we start a new thread?I’ll cover $120 if you can get folks to come up with the other half.
