    Tire Upgrade ?

I went with method 17" with I think 25mm offset. My tires are 285 and with more poke than ideal, but I'll get extended mud flaps. I had 20" stock and I didn't see a reason to buy 18" wheels

    Regenerative Charging - Coasting Feel

I think the engine brake feeling is regen from automatic braking if enabled, at least if the vehicle determines it can slow down enough not using the mechanical brakes. So I think the hybrid battery is charged three ways: 1) Automatic braking when approaching traffic or (very) possibly...

    FE Skid Plates online pricing?

If one of your local Toyota dealer discounts it will only be online. Most will not advertise but the discount will show in the parts department accessed from the dealer's website.

    Leather Trim Seats

Quality for me is mostly about longevity. I find the interior quality of the many Toyota Ubers I travel in to be surprisingly good after hundreds of thousands of miles. Yesterday I was in a white Prius Uber with 250K miles and it look good. So interior quality for me is a non concern. But I...

    Sightings on the Road?

I have not seen one yet on the road. Are we waving or not? We don't want to do the jeep wave of course, so maybe we need our own gesture. I'm not sure I would see the GX as I don't seem to notice Lexus.

    Bad Skid Advice on Youtube

We don't know the material used in either Toyota or Arb skids, but steel can be superior in strength to weight. Particularly for sheer forces. From photos it looks to me like the 5th gen 4runner TRD skid might be aluminum. Either it's aluminum or Toyota didn't take advantage of the steel. The...

    Bad Skid Advice on Youtube

They are not going to rust any more than rock rails. They can either be maintained or not, like rock rails. Skid plates are not permanent items. The front plate should be removed and debris cleaned with each oil change. I expect the Toyota plates to last three or four years. At that point ARB...

    Bad Skid Advice on Youtube

Neither the Toyota or the ARBs skids are going to rust becuase they are designed and manufacturered professionally. They are not made by a couple of dudes who a laser cutter.

    Bad Skid Advice on Youtube

Aluminum skids are sold by small companies that can't afford to make/order pressed lightweight steel. Toyota and ARB skids are lightweight steel. Note the horizontal corrugations in the FE Toyota front skid. Engineering and pressing metals is a major expertise of all auto companies. The reason...

    Not sure about the LTA

Land keeping requires fighting lane keeping occasionally. Tesla and I'm sure others are much better at this function. I'm unclear as to the relationship between lane keeping and adaptive cruise control.

Any known issues with the 17” wheel?

I have 285/70/17. So far works well. I went with C rated Falken AT4. Don't like the weight. Don't like the poke. Like the 3 ply sidewall. Method has sold a great many 17 inch wheels for our vehicle and no one is complaining.

    Non-Turbo Land Cruiser

You can see Doug DeMuro sit in both. He's 6'3". The LC and the upcoming 4runner are the same base vehicle. The LC's body is slightly taller and slightly shorter. The reason to go 4runner over LC is to avoid the hybrid with a low trim model or a preference for that lines style and features...

    Skid plate

Purchased the FE skid plates. My mechanic charged $54 to install. My total cost was $690. The plastic skid section that was removed is more substantial than I expected. The two standard skid sections are not trivial, and I don't feel that the better FE plates are a must have. Many places in...

    Toyota Dealership Foolery

The Toyota maintenance intervals are now based on leasing and warranty, not optimal engine break-in. I'm not sure why I care, as I've never kept a vehicle to 100K miles. But it bothers me to run measurable elevated metal levels for 5000 miles. Lower mileage drivers who live in areas that have...

    Transmission Overheating - anyone else?

The water pump is belt driven, correct? Low range may simple provide higher revs and more flow across the transmission cooler. I would like the center diff on dirt if that surface seems more problematic and select a manual gear that keeps revs up somewhat in high range. Also, Sport Mode may...

    Transmission Overheating - anyone else?

He should be able to drive as described without the transmission overheating. He should be able to tow a 6000lb trailer on the uphill route without a problem, assuming outside temps are not unusually hot. A photo of the code/warning should be enough for the tech to begin investigating the problem.

    Snorkel on the Land Cruiser?

basing it mostly on the comments of the Dissent Offroad build. He said that the rear diff breather was on top of the diff and it should be plumbed to the engine compartment with the ARB kit or similar

    Constant Power for USB-C?

It would be very easy to add a USB-C port at the battery in the back. But the starting battery is small so you would likely be better off with using a house battery. In particular a power bank. The existing USB C ports are only 15W.
