Not like the old days where paint needed time to air cure. Paint today is cured in the factory. Plus the Land Cruiser has to take a long journey from Japan before you receive it.
Wax away!
Ceramic won't prevent but the lightest pin striping. I ceramic coat all of my vehicles and I offroad, but pinstriping still occurs. Paint protection film is the only thing I've found that reliably protects the paint, but it too will be damaged, so you'll see striping in the PPF. Some PPF is...
Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Pro Flex Wax (Graphene). I use graphene coatings on my vehicles, but I use the TW on my boat. Long lasting and easy to apply.
Glitter in the oil? Like visible-to-the-eye metal flakes? Yikes. That's serious. Very serious. Normal engine break-in should create some metal deposits, but not visible to the eye. Noises are one thing and sometimes difficult to pin down with complicated drivetrains like these, but metal...
According to the Tacoma lead engineer, 50% of this engine is new and unrelated to the Lexus/Highlander engine. Same displacement but different engines for different purposes. Given the Tacoma sales volume will eclipse the Land Cruiser, it's probably best to monitor those vehicles for possible...
TFL video "idiots": What would you have done differently in that situation?
Deep sand and mud: Momentum, tires, tire pressure, wheel speed, and high engine RPMs are the keys to success. Whatever mode lets you spin the wheels is the best one. And air down as far as you can without breaking a...
I believe the rear glass wiper motor is attached to the gate and not the glass, and when the glass is open, the wiper arm can freely move. Be careful when closing the glass after driving with it open. If the arm rotates from its resting position while open, the arm may not line up with the...
Thanks hypnotic. It's a tricky product to apply evenly, but the protection is amazing, and like you said, the water and contaminants slide off like a properly ceramic coated paint.
I think for the first year I'll just coat the plastics with the same Adam's Graphene I'll use on the paint...
Judging from the pic, what you're seeing isn't wear but rather contamination. It's in the grain. Leather cleaner and gentle agitation with a soft brush should lift it out.
For the wax, it would help to know your goals and experience. Do you want a super deep, wet look? Protection against UV or acid? Long lasting? What's most important to you?
For the black plastic, I've only found one product that seems to work well enough, and that's Cerakote Trim Coat...
Woolwax, Fluid Film, and Surface Shield are some of the most common lanolin products that you can DIY. The disadvantage besides the cost and time involved is that the coating stays somewhat wet, so it'll collect dust. And it stinks for a couple of days. The advantage is that the coating can...
The LC is a body-on-frame traditional SUV with 2-speed transfer case, solid rear axle, actual locking rear diff (not just brake-drag locking), disconnecting sway bar, softened suspension, and resembles a box on wheels. It's not intended for drag races and high speed cornering. It's designed...
Your call on how you want to handle this, but here's my recommendation. Keep it professional and non-emotional when working with the dealership. Log every interaction and event like you're doing now. Keep all paperwork. Research your lemon laws. Right now the law is on their side, right up...
100% agree. If anyone is worried about chemicals, Turtle Wax makes an adhesive remover designed to work with paint. Spray it on, let it sit for half a minute, wipe it off. Clean the area with some soap and water. Simple and fast with no friction to mar the paint.
Love it.
I like the 4 Wheel Drive badge as a nod to the LC heritage. If anyone buys an OEM version, beware there's a little curvature on the backside that has to be shaved down, which matched the older LC profile. Best to go aftermarket with a flat version, and those usually have channels...
Sounds like there's more info to come later, but Lexus LX has been confirmed by Toyota as impacted (made in Japan):
https://pressroom.toyota.com/toyota-recalls-certain-model-year-2022-2023-toyota-tundra-and-lexus-lx-vehicles/
I've had to organize and implement recalls for companies I've worked...
Sitting in one (not mine) is what sold me on the LC. I loved it, but I'm also 6' and 170 lbs, and accustomed to midsize vehicles like the Land Cruiser. I could sit behind myself fine when I adjusted the front seat, but it's definitely narrower than a full size truck or SUV and could be tighter...
Thanks for posting. It'll be a little odd if Toyota sells non-leftover 2024 models in 2025 when other manufacturers are selling 2026 models, but it's definitely possible. If it's a summer release, that would likely mean they actually manufacture 2024s in 2025. That would be truly weird.
It's a good point. Maybe I should change it sooner than the 1K I was thinking.
Check out the filter testing from the Brand Ranks Youtube channel. I don't often recommend YT channels, but there are a few out there that do it right. Brand Ranks does it right. The Boss has been a good overall...
The recall and related failures are for ALL of the non-hybrid engines, including those installed in the Lexus and manufactured in Japan.
I get something different out of this situation than you do. For me, it demonstrates Toyota new product release quality isn't perfect. Debris removal is...
Yep. Given the V6TT failures, which according to Toyota are from machining debris, I'm going to do an early change and switch to a more aggressive oil filter (Purolator Boss), and use the newest oil to hit the market (Valvoline Restore and Protect). It's a hard working turbo 4 pushing a lot of...
I've been wondering the same. Will Toyota delay the switchover given their 2024 rollout delays? My dealer just called me last night with an LC² that arrived yesterday, but it wasn't spec'd the way I wanted and we passed on it. That one was a 2024.
Rear diff for sure just uses drain/fill plugs. No cover. I'm not sure about the transfer case, though. I'd be surprised if it's anything more than a plug.
Hard to say right now. If I follow my typical maintenance cycle, it'll be similar to yours. 1K/5K/5K for engine oil and filter. 15K/30K/30K for diff drain and fill. 30K for transfer case and trans drain and fill, and brake fluid flush. 100K for coolant flush.
